The Vols mentioned were great defensive players that did not quit when the going got tough and possessed the wil to win. In other words we ain't gonna lose this damn game! That mentality has been missing these past few years. :twocents:

Bobby Majors once won Offensive Player of the Game while playing defense!!

Not even heisman winners from Michigan can claim that

Maybe my memory is a little hazy, but it seems like I saw Bobby Majors run back several punt returns and interceptions for TD's while I was at U.T., maybe more than one in a game. I need to look it up.

I found out that B. Majors returned 4 punts for TD's while at U.T. I couldn't find any info on INT's for TD's, but he intercepted 10 passes in 1970. The defense had 36 INT's total. Absolutely amazing.

He had a big game against Penn St in either 70, or 71. I was too young to remember, but I've seen the highlights a few times.

Bobby Majors, Tennessee-Defensive Back-1971 unanimous First Team All-America… Led Vols to wins in 1971 Sugar Bowl and 1972 Liberty Bowl… Holds school records for punt returns in a career (117 for 1163 yards, 4 TDs) and season (42 for 457 yards, 2 TDs).

the sec had 2 great great safties at that time. majors and tommy casanova at lsu. watched jackie walker and the vols beat msu in memphis. walker returns a int for a td, msu returns a punt for a td. (guy named downing) and george hunt hits a then record 51 yard field goal. we win 10-7. no much offense but a whole lot of defense.

At 1 time Walker held the NCAA record for interceptions returned for a touchdown by a linebacker with 5 of them.

Not sure if that record has been tied or broken.
