we all like to announce our posting milestones on VN, and i am no different. i would like to dedicate my 3000th post to one of the rowdiest sumbit@hes that ever got behind a wheel of a race car. by rowdy, i mean before the big money overshadowed the true spirit of the sport, and drivers settled problems on the racetrack. luckily, i got to see Dale Sr race in person, at Bristol in 98, but i hated him then. but when he died, i felt the gaping hole, as everyone else, and shouldered my piece of the sadness that flooded the sport. now days, we have the Dale Jrs, the Johnsons, the Buschs, the Harvicks, the Gordons, the Hamlins, the Kenseths, the Edwards, the Kahnes, the Biffles, the Newmans, the Stewarts, the Burtons, the Martins, the Montoyas, the Boyers, and who else you may want to name. any one of these drivers will put you in a ditch before you realize you are even off the pace. i love them, and thank them for carrying on the competitiveness that was laid before them. i remember watching a race in the late 90s. when there was a red flag for rain. the reporters were roaming throught the pits, snatching a word here and there from an anxious driver, ready to get back on the track. then, the cameras, pan through the Goodwrench pit, to find Dale Sr. sound asleep on a stack of tires. HaHaHA. that was one of the coolest things that i have ever seen on a Nascar telecast. no worries in the #3 camp. i loved that guy! to you Dale....:beerf:

You are certainly not alone in that respect.

I was only 10 when he died, but I had so many memories of watching Nascar with him. Bristol in '98 Dega in 2000 and Atlanta in 2000. Of course I couldn't leave out Daytona. I've collected so much stuff of Dale's, it seems that I appreciate what he did a lot more now that he's gone than what I did when he was alive.

I never was a fan of Earnhardt but I always respected him for who he was. He didn't change for anyone. A true hard nosed racer. If he said it he ment it. There aren't too many drivers that say what they feel today. Too much sugar coating and trying to be politicaly correct going on these days.
