...... as he is wont to do. The easiest call ever was that no one was going to want to play in the SECCG and risk a 3rd loss and possible injuries while other teams were resting and preparing for the playoff. Well, that seems to be the case. Sankey can't like seeing this at all.

Best seed in the playoffs is #5, imo

The SEC Championship game is basically round 1 of the playoffs. If you win, you have the luxury of skipping the next round while everyone else beats themselves up. I'd rather be in that position on a neutral field than be sitting at home on Championship weekend, knowing my team's next game will be in a hostile environment.

If you have a team good enough to be in the SECCG, your best chance of winning a natty is to avoid a road playoff game. JMO.

So when Bama beats Texas 45-10, are longhorns headed to Citrus Bowl?

I don't think the conference championship hurts a 2 loss team for losing if they are in the top half of the CFP field... Now if you were 2 loss team sitting around 8th - 12th ranking, that's another story

Yeah, what a loser mentality to say I will pass at a chance for an SEC title because I might lose?
Or it’s a strategic mentality bc the chance of winning/losing that game doesn’t mean squat when compared to playing for a natty. In 20 years most won’t be able to tell you how many SEC ships we’ve won in the past 30 years, but I damn sure bet you they’ll remember if we won a natty.

All the teams mentioned are so close to each other. Bama beat Georgia beat Tennessee beat Bama Ole Miss beat Georgia beat Texas beat ?? maybe a 3 loss A&M and Vandy . So whoever makes the SECCG isn't much , if any better than the ones that don't make it.

Evidently, more than a few coaches of winning teams have that loser mentality. The problem is that the playoff has rendered conference championships as no more than a ticket to a bye in said playoff. The reality is that the playoff is all that really matters now. You never hear anyone talking about winning the conference title, but instead just getting a good seed.

Football, unlike other sports takes a toll on players due to injuries. It's tough to get through the extended play offs and to add another game into the mix just makes no sense. If a play off team loses 1 or 2 key players playing for the conference championship, what did they accomplish in the long run if those injuries hurt their chances at a NC

And no one is gonna remember what other 11 teams were in the playoffs.

Been saying it for months. A 3 loss SEC runner up is out!

Remember who won the 2022 baseball SEC? UT did but people only remember they flamed out in Omaha.

Idiotic.

If you're too scared to play in your conference championship game...then stay out of the playoffs altogether.

Win the SEC and you get a bye and one less game to play to win it all.

I mean...it's kinda been that way a while now. Back in the BCS era is when it started to not be as big of a deal and it was kind of the same mentality. In 1998 I was happy we won the SEC but I was estatic we were going to the Fiesta Bowl for a national title. In 2001 hell after we beat Florida our players had roses because they were already looking towards the Rose Bowl.

At least with the 12 team playoff you get an auto bid if you win your conference (probably). In the 4 team playoff you could win the conference and it didn't matter as much.
