Graphic illustration of just how far our D has fallen

They cant all be winners. Our d has come up with key stops and turnovers in the wins. Losing as many people as we have is going to have an effect. Personal is overall better even if it hasn't shown up on the field.
If "it hasn't shown up on the field", then they're...not...overall...better. Right?

LOL, sooooo, take a bunch of things you can assign a defensive sounding name to, assign them numbers, then plot them all out so you can show that they're all near "25" rather than "100" (whatever that means).

What the hell is Havoc% anyway? Opportunity%? What's the measurements for all that? This all looks very intimidating, but what is it actually saying?

And where on this defensive chart does it show that Tennessee's 5-1?

The saving grace of the defense is it's elite at getting to the QB and getting turnovers. If you can only pick a couple things for a defense to be good at, those are what you pick.

It's a real shame about McCoy and Gibson being out. If we had them our pass rush would be even better statistically(and it's already the best in the country I believe in sacks per game, if not its close) as they possessed the ability to lock receivers down. All the sudden Hood is now available to shut down the #3 and guys like Redmond instead of having to play against one of the top WRs of the other team, is playing the opponent's 4th or 5th best receiver.

Such is football, though. Injuries suck.

Stats lie. Last year's defense was statistically better, but couldn't stop Ohio State. So really... what's the difference?
This is like saying that there’s no difference between this year’s offense and last year’s offense because we couldn’t score enough to beat Georgia or something.

The difference is that last year’s defense and this year’s offense could be real contenders.

Comparison of our Defensive profile in 2025, 2024, 2022, 2021 - we actually look worse than 21?!

Are you sure that’s not Lyle’s charts?

Defense has been disappointing this year. It’s about as disappointing as the offense was last year.

We’re good at forcing turnovers and rushing the passer.

Very bad on third downs (4th downs)

I don’t care how many times our secondary gets beat on Saturday night just bring the house on 3rd and long and play press coverage.

What good is a statistically perfect team that loses in the playoffs, when the Championship is the goal?

I don't care if the Vols win 49 - 42 every week, as long as they win in the playoffs.... when it matters.

When is the last time a team competed for a championship with one of the worst defenses in the country in terms of yardage allowed?

If the defense doesn’t flip a switch and greatly improve, we won’t have to worry about the playoff.

Who left on our schedule is gonna prevent us from getting into the playoffs besides maybe Bama?

Defense last win championships. Look at Michigan and Ohio State. Yes Ohio state put up points, but their D was elite. The same with UGA and Bama teams.

We won’t make playoffs unless the D improves.

At the end of the day, it’s all about the number of points given up by our D. We gave up 31 or so v. two bad teams (record-wise). Let’s see what happens this Saturday. There is time to improve, but the clock is ticking.
