Redmond was thrust into action immediately with the injuries to veteran cornerbacks Rickey Gibson III and All-American Jermod McCoy. Redmond has started eight games and leads all SEC freshmen in pass breakups with six. The Alpharetta, Georgia, native is tied for sixth overall in the SEC in that category. Redmond also has one interception to his credit. He is coming off one of his best games in a 66-snap start against the Sooners, as he finished with four tackles, one PBU and did not allow a score.

I was very critical of this kid early. Not really his fault. He clearly wasn’t ready but injuries forced him to be. He has grown a lot and is going to be a great DB. Hope we can keep him a few more years.

this is just an intentional misreading of what people say about our defense lol. Come on man.

Certainly there are some idiots on here who think our entire defense sucks, but just pointing out that it hasn’t performed well this season isn’t saying every player is bad. I’ve always tried to defend Redmond on here, he was put in an unfortunate situation and he’s done nothing but improve through the year. He has a huge argument for freshman of the year if he finishes the year strong, and I think he absolutely can.

Intentional misreading??? when half the posts on this board want Banks and Martinez fired because our defense gives up huge yardage and our corners get roasted because the good ones "are all hurt" how is that an intentional misreading?

Kid will be a starter on Sundays soon.
He's grown so much this year it's unreal.
Told me a lot when Bama and OU didn't purposefully throw to his side of the field every pass like UGA exploited.

His open field tackling was not great but he has gotten better all year

I believe this now makes three well developed corners?

We started out the season last year with 'no hope in the secondary' and McCoy developed into an absolute stud.

McCoy got hurt and Gibson stepped right up early in the season and had a great game against Syracuse.

Gibson got hurt and here we are again, now with Redmond.

It stinks to be in this position, but the player development is notable. If I had a dollar for everytime someone posts 'Martinez as got to go!'...

Thought for a different thread but...what if it turns out our defensive woes are all on Boo Carter?!?!?

Ok, so we have a decorated freshman and a project first round pick at corner. Why is our defense still so bad? It makes Banks look even worse because what he's working with is nowhere near as bad as people act.

Ty is very good for a freshman, but he's still a true freshman playing one of the hardest positions in organized sports. That's compounded by lack of coverage skills from our safeties, which then affects our linebackers, who have had to play on their back foot most of the year, and it also affects our linemen, who have had to run more stunts and twists in order to get pressure on qbs earlier since our secondary has had issues.

I really think small improvements in level of play would lead to large improvements in points/yardage given up by this defense.

Is it really an intentional misread? I mean everyone wants to fire Martinez but he has clearly brought in talent at the dbs. He has work to do to replace turrentine but his 4 dbs (the 2 out) and the two playing are all really good. Hood has been lights out for a guy who could have been on the bench.

Redmond is a true freshman who probably would not have seen the field till late in the season.


Yet the majority of threads are “Fire everyone”

Banks should be fired. The good lord sitting on my porch when I get home today telling me otherwise couldn’t change my mind.

Ty is the definition of being thrown into the fire. He's one of the few guys this year that has actually improved as the season has gone on...

Love to see this. Shows that he is going to be a special player and that coaching must be having an impact too. Goes to show our couches may not have all the answers after all.....
