this is your day to be honored! We are not the Tennessee Volunteers for nothing. :)

And remember the 4 Vols who made the ultimate sacrifice:

Goobers? Heh, interesting word choice for folks you're thanking. :)

I'm responding to make a different point: a LOT more than four Vols have died serving our country. From the War of 1812 right up to our current fights against terrorists around the world.

Now, if you meant just Volunteer football players, I would imagine it would still be more than four. Not a single lad from our teams was drafted to Vietnam, only to give his life over there? Or Korea? Even, perhaps, WW I? Or how about fellas who never had a chance of going pro, so instead joined the service since the US went all-volunteer military? None from the 1980s, or 1990s, GWOT era?

Perhaps not. Perhaps it's just the four from WW II. I agree we should honor them. Right alongside every other Tennessean, football player or not, who gave his or her life for our country.

Go Vols!

Eh? He listed the four who got their numbers retired over it. But yeah the Goobers line? Might be a light-hearted moment of glib humor. I would never call em that, but he is gonna do him.

RIP to my papaw. He served and fought for this country fighting the Japanese tooth and nail for 3 years of his life from 1941-1944. Thankfully, he lived to talk about it. He passed in 2007 at the age of 84. He was a remarkable person and the best Grandfather you could ask for.
