What would need to happen for Tennessee to get in the CFP?

I know, I know it’s not happening, but I’m curious as to what all would need to take place for this to occur…

We need 12 of the teams above us to lose -(the ones outside of the top ten) and maybe one or four of them to lose twice, and win our last three games and look good doing it.
Probably need ND to lose and one of the ACC teams to lose twice - and the big 12 teams may need to lose twice - otherwise we are talking about having six SEC teams in the dance - and while it should fly, that’s not gonna fly

First of all, it is horse 💩 that they kept Iowa ahead of us. It is very questionable keeping both Louisville and Virginia in front of us. But for Iowa, they now have three losses. Those losses are @Iowa St and home to Indiana and Oregon. Our losses are @bama and home to Georgia and Oklahoma. Iowa's best win is over Minnesota at home, which is no better than our win @ Mississippi State. That aside, those three will work themselves out possibly as early as this weekend.

Currently 7 SEC teams ahead of UT. The Vols are bound for a bowl outside of the playoffs this year and that's OK. Time to close out the season with wins against Vandy and @ UF, finish with a strong recruiting class and plan ahead for '26.

Yeah, Iowa being ranked in front of us shocked me. We ain’t making the CFP, but that was absolute BS.

I think the only way for a 3 loss team to get into the playoffs is if they win their conference championship like Clemson did last year. They could also lose their conference championship for their 3rd loss and have the committee not punish them for playing that game if they were in the playoffs prior. Outside of that a team would have to have a large Catholic following to get in with 3 losses.

Considering that the Vols lost all 3 big games this season, it's a moot point. Even if they miraculously got into the CFP, the Vols wouldn't win the Natty and would have a good chance of losing badly again.

I'd rather enjoy a fun bowl game where we can expect to be competitive, even if a bunch of players opt out.

Oklahoma has our spot and we may even be above Texas if we win that game. Texas got owned by Florida but owned Oklahoma. We have no bad losses; however, we don't have a realistic playoff path.
Controlled both uga & ou. And still found a way to lose. Ugh! Could be sitting in the top 6 right now.

Unfortunately the only thing that matters is did we win or lose, and we lost. Nobody cares that Mississippi State and Arkansas has played a bunch of close games except maybe some fans from those fan bases to make themselves feel better.

What’s funny is our team this year would beat the brakes off of last year’s team- and that team had a damn good D and made the playoffs (and if not for a seeding screw job might have even made some real noise).

We are getting better - much better in fact - our talent next season - with the class we have coming in - is going to be the best one yet in the blooming CJH era (except we are going to have to be patient/limited at QB - and then in ‘27 we will be loaded for bear…

The ranking is going to change dramatically over the last few weeks of the season - many matchups of teams within the top 25.

There are more than 13 or 14 match ups between teams in the top 20 - teams are going to lose. Some of the teams with 1 loss will have 2, maybe 3. Some of those with 2 losses will have 3 maybe 4.

Chaos is going to happen just because of that.

I just want us to win out which should allow us to move up as the chaos happens and I want us to spoil it for Vandy.

And Pitt could be a big spoiler for teams with playoff hopes - they play Notre Dame, Georgia Tech and Miami and could find themselves in the ACC championship game.
