I was watching a bits and parts re-run of the last game and it dawned on me. Man, I am proud of these guys, this team, these coaches.
Ok, I get it, we lost some close games. But we were right there, competing until the last whistle blew. Not one time did I hear from an announcer, “lt looks like the Tennessee team has backed away.”
The Georgia game hurt. We had’m; but to me it’s sorta like some big fish I’ve had right beside the boat, everything done right until it made that last flip and was gone. And, so far as the fish tells the tale, “he had me.”
Happens. And, I didn’t have 100,000 people watching.
We’ve had season-long or several-game injuries from future NFL players, especially on defense, a coach that stood up to a tough and perhaps a season-ruining situation with “no one is bigger than the Power T,” no super star running back, and a spanking new quarterback with quite a story … and we never backed away.
So … go get’m Vols. Make Florida play you til that whistle blows. Win, lose, draw, I’ll shake your hand when you get home. Of course, do that “win thing” and I’ll also be jumping up and down with visions of Steve Spur in Our Side fading away.
