Sam Leavitt, ASU Transfer?

Does TN pursue? Would make sense on a lot of levels….

Joey is done. Merk is going transfer. That leaves wire-thin JMac and a true freshman in Faizon.
Season not even over and you guys are already falling in love with players who have zero connection to Tennessee. Let's just trust the coach's judgment on the portal. Pretty much every single one of our transfers has been at least a contributor and a good number of them are playing in the league/ are destined for the league.

We can speculate on a message board and trust his judgement. What we do on this board has no real impact on his decision making.

Well, if we don't make the playoffs the season is basically over. There is only one goal now and it's a meaningless holiday bowl game. Non playoff games have lost their luster. Many of the players don't really care much about them, especially higher rated draft picks.

And some, perhaps a minority, still care and play for the love of the game. And for those I’ll watch your meaningless bowl game.

That's a sad way to watch college football. I'm sorry for what ESPN has done to y'all. I watch the games for the stories and rivalries and to see if any young players start blossoming. I watch to see where the team has improved over the course of the season and to see what we have adjusted. I watch because these guys work on their craft 24/7 and it brings me a tremendous amount of pride knowing that young people still think my old college is cool and want to represent it.

Are we out of the playoff picture? Yes. Are the rest of the games meaningless? Absolutely not.

Bravo brother. My guess is you have some years on you. If not I apologize and congratulate your wisdom.

This guy strikes me as one of those big name hyped up guys who really hasn’t done much. I think there will be better options in the portal tbh.

In other words, bowl games are what they’ve always been and motivations vary from team to team and player to player.

Be too expensive for what you get. He is looking for a big pay day.
Do you think or have you heard if we are interested in bringing a big name QB? Or do you think we have our sights set on bringing in a backup to give depth behind GMAC and Faizon?

He's going to cost a ton. Currently it seems like he and Sellers are gonna be competing for who gets the highest contract in this year's portal. Both probably get 4+ million wherever they go. Kenny Dillingham could also be on the move potentially if LSU, Auburn, or UF come offering a mega contract. And in that scenario, I imagine those schools might do whatever it takes to bring Leavitt with him.

This could be a really interesting portal with lots of QBs changing places. Obviously Leavitt and Sellers are the biggest names that are being talked about right now as potential portal QBs. But you also have Lagway that seems somewhat likely to leave Florida, depending on who they hire as HC. Sawyer Robertson might come back for 2026 and he would probably be the biggest name on the market if he portals away from a mediocre Baylor team. Josh Hoover is another guy that could choose to stay if he doesn't get high draft grades and Sonny Dykes is already on the hot seat. If Sark leaves Texas for the NFL, Arch could be on the move. I think going forward you are going to see a lot of Sam Leavitt types of QBs who aren't good enough to be drafted early, enter the portal and go get 4-5 million (or more) instead of taking an NFL rookie contract as a mid to late round QB.

Edit: Forgot about Drew Allar. He for sure seems likely to get a medical redshirt and return for 1 more year. Does he stay in Penn State with Franklin gone?

I think a "Big Name" QB will cost you 4 million or more. I don't know what the other two QBs get but I'm betting its at least a million each. That would be 6 million or more for the QB room. Reports I've seen have our roster this year at around 25 million, not counting revenue share. So that would be around 25% of the NIL budget depending on what that budget is.

Not that I've heard, but based on that I have a hard time seeing them making that move for a 4 million a year QB. They have too many other spots on roster that need addressing in the portal that is going to be costly, assuming they play hard in the portal.

Plus, and this is a big deal to me, they are going to spend more money retaining our WRs, OL, DL, LBs and some DBs. Staley and Matthews are going to need a big bump. I would bet anything they are hearing from other schools now.

Just my thoughts..

top 25 college QBs right now based on QBR... who on list could UT pursue and at what cost? I think they end up with someone not on this list to come in and compete. I'm not even sure any of these eligibile to return, will be looking to leave their current school. But just a "top list" to look at.
