Let’s set the stage: Tennessee is now one of eight SEC teams in the CFP Top 25. That’s right - eight.
The conference continues to flex its muscle nationally, with No. 3 Texas A&M, No.
4 Georgia, No. 6 Ole Miss, No.
8 Oklahoma, No. 10 Alabama, No.
14 Vanderbilt, and No. 17 Texas all sitting ahead of the Vols.
That’s a logjam of elite talent, and Tennessee is right in the thick of it.

Zooming out, Ohio State and Indiana continue to hold down the top two spots in the rankings. Texas Tech, Oregon, and Notre Dame round out the top 10, keeping the playoff picture crowded and competitive.
But back to the Vols - they’re now 7-3 on the season after dispatching the Aggies, and the path ahead is anything but simple. This week, they head to Gainesville to face a struggling Florida team that’s 3-7 and currently without a head coach following the midseason firing of Billy Napier.

On paper, it looks like a game Tennessee should win. But anyone who’s followed this rivalry knows better than to expect smooth sailing in The Swamp.
Here’s the kicker: Tennessee hasn’t won in Gainesville in over 20 years. That’s a streak they’d love to snap, especially with a ranked showdown against Vanderbilt looming in the season finale. The Commodores have locked in their top-25 spot and are still very much in the College Football Playoff hunt, meaning that final game could carry serious postseason implications.

So, for Tennessee, this week is about more than just beating a down Florida squad. It’s about maintaining momentum, staying in the CFP conversation, and setting up what could be a marquee finish to the season. A win in The Swamp would not only end a two-decade drought - it would keep the Vols firmly in control of their postseason destiny.
The stakes are high, the rivalry is real, and Tennessee has a chance to make a statement.

Lol. I dont see us making the playoffs, but I do find it funny that people like to make such absolute statements.

I have screenshot of posters from last year saying crap like...."100% fact we will not make the playoffs with 2 losses". I guarantee we wont sniff the playoffs with 2 losses".

Then after we did make the playoffs it was "yeah, how did that turn out". Lol.

Depends on how you look at it.

We're not going to the playoffs and it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure that out.

Control of Postseason destiny to me knowing playoffs are out of reach is getting that Swamp streak monkey off our backs (no matter the circumstances), ruining Vandys dreams and winning a bowl. At this point Ill take 10-3 as this seasons destiny.

I'd say we're still in control of that and that may have been our destiny for this year from the beginning. You know, back when it looked like 8-4 would be acceptable under the circumstances?

Funny how some thought after injuries and Nico leaving we were destined for a terrible year, but after seeing Joey preform and almost beating Georgia, they got their hopes up. Some of these are the same that are always telling everyone to not get their hopes up. Lol.

Anyway, I will be extremely happy if we win out and end the season 10-3.

That will be acceptable. For THIS season.

One of the best endings in film history.

"I find I'm so excited I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head.

"I think it's the excitement only a free man can feel, a man at the start of a long journey.

"I hope...."

...

If that doesn't describe fans celebrating the start of a football season, I don't know what would.

Go Vols!

Making the playoffs just to watch us repeatedly shoot ourselves in the foot like we against the 3 playoff teams this year. I don’t think I can handle anymore pain this year.

We are in control of our postseason destiny, just not in the way that was apparently intending. Bowl games are postseason games. In that regard, we will be playing in a bowl game and are in control to an extent at least of which level of bowl game we play in. We have absolutely no control over any postseason playoff scenario. That thought has been reduced to nothing more than a mathematical possibility after last weekend's games.

I know what you mean. "What's left of our postseason" destiny is more like it.
