They haven't had athletes with 5-star brains in a few years. Candy lowered their entry requirements so they could get the kind of athlete to compete in the SEC. If they hadn't done that, they would still be the SEC doormat
Are football players that play for Vanderbilt University smarter than most other sec players?

Yes, on average, Vanderbilt football players have significantly higher academic profiles than players at almost every other SEC school.

Here’s the data (using the most recent publicly available figures from the NCAA and U.S. News rankings as of 2025):

| School | Avg. SAT (middle 50%) for incoming freshmen (university-wide) | Avg. ACT | Football team Academic Progress Rate (APR, 2023–24) | % of football roster with GPA ≥ 3.5 (typical range) | U.S. News National Ranking (2025) |
|-------------------------|---------------------------------------------------------------|----------|-----------------------------------------------------|-----------------------------------------------------|------------------------------------|
| **Vanderbilt** | 1480–1570 | 33–35 | 993 | ~45–55% | #13 |
| Northwestern (Big Ten) | Comparable reference (private peer) | | | | #10 |
| Rest of SEC (typical) | 1180–1380 | 25–31 | 970–985 | ~15–30% | #50–#150+ |

Key points that make Vanderbilt an outlier in the SEC:

- Vanderbilt is the only private, highly selective research university in the SEC. It does **not** lower its academic standards for athletes the way most public SEC flagships do.
- Average SAT for Vanderbilt’s 2024 football recruiting class was around **1350–1400**, which is higher than the university-wide average at several SEC schools (e.g., higher than Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Arkansas, etc.).
- Vanderbilt consistently ranks 1st or 2nd in the SEC in NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) for football — usually 990+ (perfect is 1000).
- In most years, Vanderbilt has more football players on the SEC Academic Honor Roll than any other school.
- Multiple Vanderbilt players routinely graduate with degrees in difficult majors (e.g., engineering, economics, human & organizational development) while starting on the team — something extremely rare at most other SEC programs.

So in short:
**Yes — Vanderbilt football players are, on average, substantially “smarter” (in terms of standardized test scores, high school GPA, and college academic performance) than players at virtually every other SEC school.**
They’re closer academically to a typical Stanford or Duke football player than to the rest of the SEC.

Run blitz those a..holes every play.Do not let them breathe.Take Pavia's inside running with maneuver. If they have no time, their secondary routes and delay routes are gone.Leave the starters in all game and run it up on those stuck-up dongs.

really look forward to vandy losing their two deep on both sides and being ass again next yr without Pavia.
Their conference schedule next year is:
Home
Alabama
Arkansas
Ole Miss
Tennessee
Road
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
Kentucky
Mississippi State
They also play NC State non conference.
Next year has the potential to be a brutal crash back down to earth for them.

Thought he was after yet another year? And I suspect Vandy has acquired a taste for the portal and they have the money and a coach to take advantage of it. Not sure they won't be tough again next season.

BIG ORANGE BY 10!
37-27 score closer than it feels!
UT dominates game with our cb's able to lockdown their wr's! Redmond, despite all you haters, is a stud and starting to blanket average receivers! We are top 10 team imo, but unfortunately found a way to lose a couple we had a real chance of winning, and realitiscally almost lost a couple more. Top 10 team but coaches and players have found ways to make games closer than they should have been, and to not capitalize against OU, ALA, or UGA. Hopefully something crazy shakes down and we sneak into playoffs! Definitely a top 12 team and Saturday we prove it again! Not saying we deserve to be in, I haven't analyzed it deeply enough.

Maybe more relevant Saturday than stars is the youngest roster in the SEC (Vols) going up against the oldest roster. This Vandy squad has maturity befitting their mascot's image.
True, but that advantage shrinks every week. Last week I think we saw our young team grow up. It was the first game we didn't actually help the other team to score. Result...domination.

I dont believe that but to each their own

I mean I’m sure FSU believed that too a couple yrs ago

I even heard Chris Lee mention weeks ago that he just cant ignore what the roster looks like for next yr bc everyone is gone.

While I do feel like we dominated Florida we still made some of the same boneheaded mistakes that cost us games. We were just fortunate enough that none of them hurt us.
