I didn't wanna do this but I'll be the voice of reason. If some of you don't realize we played the (arguably) the most physical team in college basketball yesterday, then ran out of gas today then idk what to tell you. They didn't play Houston and we did. Also, NCAA tournament is never 3 games in 3 days.. and our best players went 10-34 BECAUSE THEY WERE TIRED. It's November, it happens. Some of y'all's posts have ticked me off. We are just fine.

Ha! You started a thread and posted the same thing in the game thread. Your frustration causing you to see double?

Not usually big on fatigued factors but CLEARLY Gillespie was tired because his shots were coming up short. Tell tale sign of tiredness. However the turnovers IMO beat us tonight along with the two kids from Kansas we couldn’t stop. We’re definitely ok as a team though and I’m not too worried about this loss. 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is the first thread I’ve opened since before the game but finally got to finish the game and this Got me ready to fight!!! lol
Front of the rim after front of the rim.
Guys two steps behind on defense.
Also had 2 super key guys tweek an ankle, I think on the same play.
And maybe possibly probably a little ticked they think/are the best team in the tourney and getting a little shafted in the pocket.

I had to add, OP but you are

Spot on

There hasn’t been an undefeated team in college basketball since 1975-76. I think they’ll get better from this one. When we went up by 12 I think we relaxed a bit and their intensity ratcheted up. I remember Coach K saying you’d love to learn a lesson and still win, but sometimes you have to lose to learn the lesson.

And the lesson Ament should come off the bench and focus on playing what the game gives you instead of playing Kobe Bryant ball and forcing points on a stat sheet.

I thought they should have continued going to Carey once we went cold. From what I remember, they went to him twice and he got two quality shots - he just missed them.

Didn’t Kansas play 3 games in 3 days also (all without one of their best scorers due to injury then losing another to foul trouble early)?
Not sure who Kansas played before us, but I do know that no one beats you up like Houston does. We certainly felt it the next day. Said it before, but our kids emptied the tank vs Houston. 20 year olds or not, it's hard to duplicate an effort like that two nights in a row.... especially in a "tournament" like this one.

All in all, this tournament was very good for us and we got what we needed from it. Proud of the way our guys represented.

Good game early in the season and good experience for a young team building roles, chemistry and substitution patterns. I would say this even if Houston beat us by 3. Reminder, this is not like playing football where you play UGA and beat them all game, then miss a 9 out of 10 field goal for the time expiring win. In football it is basically over you lost your very narrow path.
Remember last year in basketball Florida blew us out, then we played them later and we blew them out. Made Florida look inept but guess what Florida came back and won the Natty. It is a long season, nobody is going undefeated.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 50 years. IU did benefit from the Big 10 not having the best competition that year (and no conference tournament). But even 2-16 tOSU was a tough out. Indiana had to beat Michigan 3x. Kentucky (and Michigan) took them to overtime. 9 of their wins outside of the conference regular season were versus ranked teams including every NCAAT opponent. Plus only 1-20 were ranked at that time. #1 every week of the season. The General was a legend.

This is all fact. That Houston game was fantastic. And a glimpse of what this team is capable of. March is going to be fun as hell.

Good post. Let's also realize the guys missed probably 6 or more 5 footers.

Agreed! As much as we all hate a lose, this one could go along way to maturing this team. Also, it seems to me that Coach Barnes has more pieces to work with this year. He is looking at how players work with each other on the floor. By season end, he will have the team ready to play anybody.

It was just a tough pill to swallow because we lost in a way that guys like Mashack and Ziegler would not have let happen. Out worked and outhearted. We just haven't seen it in a while. Part of maturing as a new team I guess.
