Welcome to the baseball forum!Did Tony leave just to pursue his dream of coaching in the majors or is there any traction about NIL money being moved from the baseball team to the women’s basketball team?
Just curious if it’s all just speculation or is there anything concrete.
I think it was the draw of MLB. For some context, I personally think CTV formed a great relationship with Buster Posey over their interactions on draft picks (Gavin KiLen, Maui Ahuna) and recent trades for Drew Gilbert and Blade Tidwell. I think the 2024 NC made it easier for CTV to say goodbye to college baseball and hello to MLB. Being the first to do it made the challenge even more appealing to CTV. The NIL, Rev share, and transfer portal made it easier to say goodbye to TN as well.Did Tony leave just to pursue his dream of coaching in the majors or is there any traction about NIL money being moved from the baseball team to the women’s basketball team?

He was at the Baylor- Brentwood game sitting with Manning last night.Did Tony leave just to pursue his dream of coaching in the majors or is there any traction about NIL money being moved from the baseball team to the women’s basketball team?

….and there it is. Speculative anecdote from an “insider” with a little personal speculation sprinkled in…Coming from a family member of an athlete at Tennessee, had Danny White called him back between Saturday and Wednesday, he’d have stayed. Not feeling wanted by your boss is pretty good motivation to leave.
I’ll stand by my “speculative anecdote” and I don’t claim to be an insider. I’m just telling you what was told to me by someone far closer to the situation than you or me. Choose to dismiss it and disparage me all you want.….and there it is. Speculative anecdote from an “insider” with a little personal speculation sprinkled in…
He did build a blue blood type program. 5 consecutive Super Regionals and 3 CWS appearances out of 4 of those years. 1 game away from it being 4 consecutive CWS appearances. Had the most talked about team in the history of the sport that helped increase popularity. That’s a blue blood type run if I’ve ever seen one. Elander was promoted and recruiting didn’t drop a single bit. Tony built an empire and all Elander has to do is keep it going. And people are looking at this the wrong way. If Tony is successful in the majors then that will only uplift the Tennessee program because Tony is always going to speak highly of it. He is basically a free recruiter at this point.Danny Dollars player money distribution among UT programs played a part.
Obvious that White and Tony were not best of friends, so to speak.
How much it played in Tony's decision, I don't know, but it was a factor.
Depressing to me, I thought Vitello would be here a long time and build a blue-blood type program.
Battered Vol Syndrome.
Anyone who denies they had a tenuous relationship isn’t being honest with themselves. Danny even hinted at the arms length distance he keeps. Sorry, he only has so many head coaches. That’s a BS response. Tony is a peculiar dude and the deal about Danny going radio silent after Tony told him the situation is true.Just my worthless opinion, but I think the idea of coaching in the MLB for a storied franchise, and being the first college coach to do so without prior MLB experience was too much of a draw for him. I really think that’s it.
I don’t know of his relationship with Danny White, but he was recruiting at an elite level, so I don’t think it was purely NIL (atleast as it relates to Tennessee, he was pretty vocal about his dislike for NIL in general). Also, they just remodeled LNS. I think if Danny truly had an issue with Tony he would’ve cleaned house when he left instead of promoting Elander. Just me speculating.

So Tony is the girl? If that's the case, then good riddance because that question always means she's wanting out.Anyone who denies they had a tenuous relationship isn’t being honest with themselves. It’s not as if this opportunity just popped up and Tony was blushing like a school girl at the affections of the Giants. The Giants had already pursued other paths. I don’t blame Tony for taking the job. I’ve contended from day one that there was absolutely a path where Tony would have remained at UT. It’s not that Danny said good riddance. I would equate to your girlfriend saying, “what would you think about seeing other people,” and you shrug your shoulders and say, “it’s a good opportunity, let me know what you decide.” And then you ghost her for four days. That relationship is done.
Tony loved hard. I think he truly loves UT. I don’t think he likes Danny White, like at all. I think that absolutely played a hand in how the situation developed. Not “THE” decision, but the evolution of the interest, the reception of interest………..So Tony is the girl? If that's the case, then good riddance because that question always means she's wanting out.
Yeah, that's a whole bunch of nothing to answer that question. In your analogy was Tony the girl?Tony loved hard. I think he truly loves UT. I don’t think he likes Danny White, like at all. It may be for the best as I truly think Tony was really clipped over the new roster rules, NIL and the other BS. I admittedly think those things also tilled the ground. At best White was a bit of fertilizer, but I still see him as a cut throat SOB. UT Sports will be successful but unrecognizable by the time he is done. I’m rooting for those suing the University over being booted from their seats in TBA.
The homers will continue to tell us what an awesome opportunIt’s it was. It makes them feel all safe and warm inside.
Sorry that analogies escape you.
