Did Tony leave just to pursue his dream of coaching in the majors or is there any traction about NIL money being moved from the baseball team to the women’s basketball team?

Just curious if it’s all just speculation or is there anything concrete.

Welcome to the baseball forum! 🤗

We’ve got a new Head Coach and staff.

It’s clearly all speculation; we’ve reviewed all the material and have returned it to the lower court for reconsideration.

I think it was the draw of MLB. For some context, I personally think CTV formed a great relationship with Buster Posey over their interactions on draft picks (Gavin KiLen, Maui Ahuna) and recent trades for Drew Gilbert and Blade Tidwell. I think the 2024 NC made it easier for CTV to say goodbye to college baseball and hello to MLB. Being the first to do it made the challenge even more appealing to CTV. The NIL, Rev share, and transfer portal made it easier to say goodbye to TN as well.

I have zero insider info as to why, but my best guess is it was a dream and opportunity to manage in the big leagues and he would be a fool to pass up that opportunity, career-wise.

Im sure the frustration with NIL, portal woes, tampering, etc., played a part in that decision as there probably isn't a person with a pulse that doesn't think things should change drastically in those 3 categories. Currently players have too much power and what 18-22 year old is wise enough to navigate the waters with any sort of confidence. Good players are constantly being tempted with big money and I can't blame them for trying to get the biggest bag they can, CTV not excluded. Coaches are the ones at the biggest disadvantage because they have very little control over who their players talk to and when.

Danny Dollars player money distribution among UT programs played a part.
Obvious that White and Tony were not best of friends, so to speak.
How much it played in Tony's decision, I don't know, but it was a factor.

Depressing to me, I thought Vitello would be here a long time and build a blue-blood type program.
Battered Vol Syndrome.
