When a game any type game becomes meaningless to a healthy player, then that player should quit playing the sport. Players have always played "extra games" if it was a game that could help their career. I would say playing a bowl game would be a plus for their career, if for no other reason than to show loyalty to a program (or for pro teams, suspect loyalty that is an example of a self interest trait).And this is why fans are opting out of bowl games.
