I guess that Notre Dame leads the way - opting out because they didn’t make the College Football Playoff. But, there are many other schools refusing to play in bowl games this year: Iowa State; Kansas State; Auburn; Florida State; UCF; Baylor; Rutgers; Temple; & Kansas.

Coaching changes, the transfer portal, NIL issues, players opting out, and some schools just can’t afford it…

A bowl game used to be the pinnacle and celebration of a good season….

But, let’s be honest - if you’re not in the CFP then nobody really cares.

Even Conference Championship games don’t mean that much anymore.

I think that we wish it was different, but a bowl game outside of the CFP is now just an overpriced “festival”.

41 bowl games & 82 teams don’t really inspire me — or apparently even the schools / teams…

— Bowl invitations don’t even require a winning record anymore.

I’d rather watch them on TV from my lounger — if I watch them at all!……

Make no mistake - I support the VOLS - But, honestly, I’d rather save my money & go to a Home game in Neyland Stadium than a bowl game in Florida, Charlotte, or Nashville….

8-4 should be the cut off. Fewer games, SHOULD make the remaining games hold more water. There are several benefits of the NIL era, one being just a handful of good players can make you competitive in a game that would have over by endof the 2nd quarter 10 years ago. JMU and Tulane, not sure they have a chance, but i like watching good football and always pull for the underdog, or ANY team taking on Oregon.

Aren't there at least another 10 threads stating bowls are meaningless these days and how no one cares? Can all of these merged into a single thread?

I live in Nashville and would rather drive to a game at Neyland than go to the MCB.

Bowls used to allow bragging rights to which conference was better before players began to opt out for the NFL. Now it's just a " Who's left Bowl "
