For those that are more informed on these things, what are our chances to pull them back in and what would be the process? They both were very interested in the Vols and have both lost their coach just after the early signing period. Could they theoretically request a release and join our '26 class? In this dream scenario if it could happen, where would this land us? Easily in Top 5, I'm sure.

*I'm not in the know. This is from people in the know in the recruiting forum

Moa received 3x more NIL to stay home

Hiter likely knew Moore wouldn't be retained . Also, we really have a running back we like for next year that will command a lot of NIL

I think their NIL packages will keep them at their schools they signed with.

Yeah I think everyone needs to remember. There is no loyalty anymore. It’s just like the workplace. People will go where they can make the most money

The transfer rules mean those who don’t care about loyalty do not have to be. These recruits who bounce back and forth with their commitments probably would never be loyal, regardless of NIL’s existence.

Even in the workplace, some people care about relationships and how they are treated more than the salary. Others prioritize the pay. Everyone has to choose what makes them feel safe.

Couldn't Hiter enter the portal in Jan 2026 or will this be a wait and see who the new coach is at the moment. I think there is two options and one trigger point only for a fired coach. He is eligible to go into the Jan 26 portal just like Bey is allowed to do so.

Doubtful the VOLS have the big bag it takes to lure Hiter here after the big signing period. NIL funds I'm sure are very low at this point.

Correct. Except in rare cases like Bishop, there’s no such thing as “VFL” anymore. You’re going to see very little of a Jason Witten, Eric Berry or Al Wilson who bleed orange for life anymore. Coaches have always been hired guns, now players are as well. I was never against paying players but it’s just egregious now.

Correct. Also there is no building team for the future. You have to build your team from season to season. Most of the recruiting classes won't be here after 2 years.

I would presume neither are leaving. Hiter responded to some of those tweets about leaving and said he wasnt, not that he couldnt change his mind, i also heard some rumors this was what the delay on signing day was about. With Moa, I think they were probably upfront about the retirement with him, esp given who is dad is and that the new coach is a promotion from with in, the 1.2 million was probably enough to not worry about it.

In 2-3 years, it will be interesting to see how many national titles and conference titles (assuming they still exist) teams and the percentage of "portal players" vs. "HS recruited players" make up the team. Right now, its seems like it might be 30/70 with portal in the minority (largely due to money). Some billionaire fan ponies up and the entire starting line-up could be portal.

A cautionary tale of be careful what you wish for. The question is will it get better or worse?

I do see average fans that love sports eventually getting priced out though it's harder for football to become a niche sport like NBA basketball where there is controlled temperatures and groupies can be seen easier.

Can't imagine that's an issue. I'm betting the Vols spend much more on the portal than last year..A lot more. Especially with the Adidas contract coming up..NIL funds won't be a problem.

This. Future VFL’s will either be local three stars who blossom at the college level or players who always wanted to wear the orange and play in Neyland Stadium.
