I’ve been seeing threads all season about Coach and “hot seat”, or 2026 being “make or break year”. Obviously those ramped up after getting rocked by Vandy. But I’ll be honest and give the hard truth, Heupel shouldn’t feel any pressure, nor should we as fans apply any additional heat.

This is a tough league. 10-2 is the new 12-0. And I know that 8-4 isn’t where we as Vol fans love being. I know we’re not supposed to lose to Vandy. But 3 of the teams that beat us are in the final 12. The other team that beat us should be. 2025 just wasn’t our year to be GREAT. Make no mistake, we were still a good football team. 8-4 in the SEC is very difficult to do, and will only get harder as expansion happens. A made FG and we get the W over UGA. We finally whipped up on Florida at the Swamp. We finally beat Arkansas. We still showed Kentucky who is in charge. A win or loss over Illinois in the bowl game means very little in the grand scheme of things. Let’s give our new coordinator time to come in and make changes. Heupel showed he’s willing to grow and adapt. He undeniably cost us the UGA game. Horrible game management at the end of that one, but he’s gotta live with it and learn. But I want our coach to smile and have fun coaching the Vols. Remember how bad that last guy was? And the one before him? And the one before him? JH loves the Vols. There’s no one out there better that’s guaranteed to just show up and win it all. Ask Texas. Ask Florida. Ask Penn State. Ask Florida State. Ask Oklahoma. Let’s not run this guy out of town. Give him 5 more years and reevaluate. Go Vols!

The good news is, none of us have anything to do with this so not even worth discussing much. Results determine if a coach continues with his contract. Any coach, assistant or head, is fireable from one season to the end of the next. Yes, it is that volatile. To speak in terms of multiple seasons is pure speculation.

Not being able to stop 4th and forever lost us the UGA game. Our players had like a dozen chances to close that out and didn't. I agree that wanting to get rid of Heupel is insanity, but 10-2 ain't the new 12-0. You still got multiple teams winning 11, 12 games. 3 in the SEC this year.

Yes, but you’ve got more schools with fired coaches in our league than 10-2 teams. Auburn, LSU, Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky……there’s probably even more lol

9 game sec schedule is gonna add 8 more losses across 50% of the league

None won 12. Winning 11 or 12 with the 9 game SEC schedule should have them ranked in the top 2-3 in the country.

Indiana and Ohio State won 12, Georgia, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and BYU all won 11. That's 7. That's about as many 11+ win teams in P4/5 football as you ever have.

P.S. and I wasn't talking just SEC, but Georgia is now 12-1, so there you go.

12 wins with the schedules that Ohio State and Indiana play isn’t that impressive. I’m talking SEC teams and schedules, because our only losses were to SEC teams.

Well, saying 10-2 is the new 12-0 is a farce though when right now, at this very moment we have a 12-1 team and two 11-1 teams. The longer time passes, I realize more and more readily that I am neither a pumper nor a nega. I wish both sides would cut the hyperbole and keep their feet on planet earth.

I have never thought Heupel was on the hot seat. Most of that flack is coming from trolls or people who, obviously, know less about football than you ham they think.

I don't usually read long posts but this one was spot on.

Heupel is desperately trying to improve. The offense was explosive for the 1st time without a true DT QB. He put a lot of work into the offense last off season.

If Banks had of done the same he would still be DC.

Attack the Transfer Portal. get close to what you think you need, and the strength and conditioning with a purpose.

Study up if you're a defender and play scenarios out in your mind
