Beattie Feathers was the first NFL back to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. That was a much more difficult task than. Gale Sayers said that when he did it there had been 14 in history who had done it. He said that after the NFL moved the hash marks to the middle of the field that many did it every year. Of course, those guys didn’t play 16-game seasons either.

Does anyone know how Charlie Garner is doing these days? I know he had mentioned possible CTE symptoms a few years back in an interview.

I'd probably add Tim Irwin, Harry Galbreath, Tim McGee, Leonard Little, Alvin Harper, and Mike Cofer to the conversation.
I thought about reserves at each position, but was cooking breakfast while posting this. Cosey Coleman, Ramon Foster and others on the OL were considered in my mind while typing. Stop Cover was considered too. It was difficult between McGee and Pickens. Funny that I had a short conversation with Boomer Esiason a few weeks ago about McGee

Ed Cifers End with Bears and Redskins. Pre war early 40s and post war mid to late 40s. Won an nfl championship.

I’ve heard Cifers and Bud Hubbell both say Suffredge was the best foot ball player they ever saw. If WWII had not occurred and interrupted or ended careers a number of other Neyland players would be on this list IMO.

Andy Spiva still holds the all-time tackle record and by a large margin. I knew him and his mother , Betty, really well. He had a
All Pro written all over him until he died in an automobile accident his rookie year with the Falcons. What a huge loss to the community and the sport.

See, I thought I remembered it being his third year. Yeah, he was a badass. So was Paul Naumoff

I was living in Atlanta at the time and went to Spiva's funeral. There was a huge number of Atlanta Big Orange Club members in Atlanta nd I believe all of them attended the funeral. We donated a tree toad planted it beside the Stokley Center to honor him. Unfortunately, it was sacrificed when they expanded Stokley.
