“The Champions Classic was the marquee event of the past weekend. UConn-Iowa headlined the doubleheader in Brooklyn. But the opener between Louisville and Tennessee was the more impactful game. Since the season started, both teams figured to be in the mix for a top-four seed; and as the first two months unfolded, the Cardinals and the Lady Volunteers lingered on the top-16 bubble. Louisville's decisive 89-65 win Saturday shifted positioning for each, and it will be a game the Cards point to when big decisions are made in March. Louisville is now solidly inside the top 16, while the Lady Vols have some ground to make up during SEC play. The conference is deep, but with losses to Louisville and NC State, a sixth- or seventh-place finish might no longer be good enough to get first- and second-round NCAA tournament games in Knoxville.”

Predictiable Creme hate in coming. BVS triggered.

but this time old Charlie is right about every word. This team has put itself right behind the eight ball.

It’s time TN fans face the fact that the Lady Vols 🏀 program is a shell of itself from the glory years - not nationally relevant.

I don’t see anything changing this yr.

They are young and you really will not know if CKC or her system will work for another year or two.
Second, the program has been a shell of itself since yr 2 of Warlick's HC tenure. We have had growing pains for a while. Patience or not. It is an issue.

The system has drawn the eyes of many. Now will it be a big winner in the near future ? I think finding the right players for the line change is going be the most difficult. As far as the full court press there several different variations can be used. Trying to steal the ball 100% of the time will not be sustainable it gets you out of position when not successful. You can only give up so many easy baskets and you want be able to recover. Still thinking most you sub at one time would be 2 or 3 the best are needed at least 75% of the game.

What's more, we got a once in a Lifetime coach here that spanned 4-5 generations. There are no Coaches that even come close to her, including Geno. You can compare NCs, Titles and records all you want, but CPHS is the only coach that was complete in all aspects of life. Nobody will come close, but many idiots will try to debate. She is WCBB.

I laugh when I see statements like this because truth is Tennessee could go another 20 years without winning a national championship and will still be more relevant than any WBB program of all-time. Teams winning now were getting beat when Tennessee was on top. Tennessee has like a 40 game winning streak against South Carolina. 10-15 years doesn’t change history and tradition. South Carolina, LSU, UCLA, Louisville those teams will never be a Tennessee.
Tennessee will one day again return to dominance in this sport. So you having to face that fact is the reality not LV fans.
Saying Tennessee is a shell of itself simply isn’t how sports work. Tennessee will always be nationally relevant in this sport and one of the only 1-2 reasons collegiate women’s basketball even matters.

Agree. Idk if the program will ever get back to where it was when in Summit’s prime.

LA Tech was a monster of a program for years and now…. Irrelevant.

Keep laughing at the truth, then. The program is a shell if itself- has been since Coach got sick and when Holly took over.

The Last Vols are not relevant when it comes to competing for national titles- now! We were a dominant program competing for titles on any given year but not now.

You don’t know basketball if you think typing Tennessee WBB isn’t relevant carries any weight. WCBB may not be relevant as a whole in the sports landscape just as the WNBA.. but any and every discussion of WCBB starts with Coach Pat Summitt and the Tennessee brand.
So keep saying it and being wrong.

Unfortunately, the season so far has given the haters plenty of ammunition. Im shocked we didn’t fall out of the polls.
There are a few things, low hanging fruit if you will, that should signal to the fanbase, that the coaching is beginning to have an impact:
1) FT% increase. Maybe not a dramatic increase headed into SEC play, but a discernible uptick. The opposing team has zero impact here… venue possibly, but not the opponent.

2) Rebound rate. Yeah. Our five agin yer five.

CKC was hired to win championships NOW, not 3 or 4 or 5 years from NOW.

How many blowouts in the SEC are you all willing to endure?

Really? Every coach is hired to win Championships NOW. Whether it happens or not in a year or 2 is a fan expectation most of the time. Warlick, Holly and CKC all hired to win championships. We are coming into this year with Freshman galore and a top 3 recruiting class.

You can say ok coach you have to win a championship now not next year or the next year.
You want it Right or do you want it Right Now. Fork over the money and designate it for A, B, C, D, and E players. You may get lucky. Let's see how the coach, coaches over the next few years and then we will know.

Some of you have no clue how bad of shape this program was in when CKC got here.

i’m so sorry, but any SANE person would not have expected CKC to come in and win a national championship NOW. be reaslistic.
Then her boss, the man who hired her, needs to line up for his mental health check. He said he expected exactly that at her introductory press conference. Said he promised the players they’d compete for championships immediately with no years long build. And he did apparently fork over the money to make it happen.

CKC actually scolded reporters last year when they talked about a rebuild for the future.

I could pull the quotes again but they’ve been posted and discussed on this site many, many times.

It was always stupid and overblown, but that’s what both Danny White and CKC have said.

Kellie's last three seasons were 25 wins (3rd in conference + S16); 25 wins; (3rd in conference + S16); and 20 wins (4th in conference, 2nd round loss plus the infamous buzzer beater loss to South Carolina in the SEC conference semi-final).

If not fired, Kellie would have had Cooper, Boyd, Hollingshead, Darby, Puckett, and Spear (all of whom were pretty important to CKC's first season success) and some gaps to fill in the portal (where her track record was quite good).

Kellie's last season, particularly with a generational player like Rickea, was a disappointment and hence the impetus for a coaching change. But it is not fair to say that the program was in "bad shape." We will never know what Kellie could have done with more NIL resources in terms of recruiting.

Brought up only when someone says “no sane person would” . . .
When i get fed up with “our” expectations, I generally glance around at the greats, Saban, Geno, Staley and yes, even Pat. No great dynasty was established overnight by a rookie coach.

The NIL era and transfer portal has complicated the issue and facilitated even higher expectations for immediate results.
