Decided to create this thread just specifically for our QB options, I’ll update as the portal season progresses. I’ll label them under superstar, solid, and clipboard holder.

Superstar

Brendan Sorsby
Obviously the top QB, and possibly even the top overall, prospect in the portal currently.
Will be elite wherever he goes, and has ties to Knoxville with his parents and brother in law both living here.

Josh Hoover
one of the top prospects in the portal as well. Prolific passer, however his mobility could be a factor. We tampered with him after Nico left, so maybe we kick the tires again. Drew Lock is the most comparable Heupel QB for him. He also would know the system already because Kendall Briles was TCU’s OC.

Sam Leavitt
Also another player we were rumored to kick the tires with in the spring. He’s a two year starter at ASU who has been really solid, having good mobility and accuracy. Lsu and oregon appear to be the front runners currently.

• Byrum Brown
Another player that will be elite wherever he goes. Was elite at USF under Golesh, who obviously runs the same system we do. It is assumed that Auburn is the front runner, but we should at least kick the tires with him.

DJ Lagway
Another name I think has a chance to be elite under Heupel. He hasn’t been productive while at Florida, but he has all the tools to be good. With the right system and coaching, he could be elite which is why im putting him under this category. Baylor is the front runner currently, but hey we could and should at least try

Solid
Rocco Becht
Another QB that we kicked the tires with in the spring. He is likely following Campbell to PSU, but he is worth shooting our shot with. Has a good arm and solid accuracy.

Jaylen Rayner
The QB that Botch lived off of for the past couple of seasons. Put up good numbers at Arkansas State and is one that I think makes a lot of sense for us. Has a good arm and great mobility, and is someone that can come in and push for the job while still allowing GMac and FB to have a chance as well.

Dylan Raiola
Ole patrick Mahomes wannabe. He has all the tools to be a solid qb. Was considered a Louisville lean but with Brohm likely going to Michigan, who knows if that’s where he’ll go with Underwood still there.

Katin Houser
This one is intriguing to me because his stats and size are almost exactly the same as Joey. I think he could be a solid player wherever he goes.

Jaden Craig
FCS QB for Harvard, leading them to their first playoff, put up good numbers and has good size at 6’2 230lbs

Clipboard Holder

Kenny Minchey- ND
Colton Joseph - ODU
Aidan Chiles- Michigan State
Taron Dickens- Western Carolina
Amari Odom- Kennesaw State

Raiola is a QB that balled out in HS and Poly bowl. Was surprised he picked Huskers. Wondered if he just wasnt developed or scheme sucked. Prob both.

Lagway in the superstar category is crazy work.

Appreciate you putting all the QBs here tho.

Someone posted in another thread. WCU qb Taron Dickens has very impressive numbers and would be cheaper.
Probably me! Dickens is very small, but he could 100% operate the offense and be when where and accurate.

Ridiculous numbers in 9 game

3,508 yards, 38 TD's, 2 int's and 74.2 completion %.

He's 5'11 180 tho

I’m out on him, not that it means anything lol. Don’t think he has it between the ears
You may be right. But the entire country (especially our fan base) thought the same thing about Compton and Kiffin made him above average. I have no way of knowing if Heupel could make Lagway better than Mac but coaching matters and DJ hasn’t had much.

Dickens would be good in this offense. I think he is closer to 5'9 than 5'11 tho. Could see him at an ACC school next year.

Added the WCU qb Taron Dickens, not sure if he’d be a factor here given his size and he was in the fcs, but still is an intriguing prospect

The underselling of Minchey is noted. It was a coin flip who would start at ND this year. Carr is elite and so is Minchey

He missed the first 3 games of the season due to an academic issues - rumored plagiarism on a paper. So, I guess his total production would have/could have been better.

I lean toward this. Most of what makes a successful QB is between the ears. This kid is potentially another Joe Milton. I think JH could get more production out of him than he’s shown thus far, but I don’t think his processing and decision-making deficiencies can be completely papered over.
