Josh has benefited from previous coaches (Frost), weak schedules (last year and this year) and injuries (Hooker over Milton), transfers (Aguilar over Nico) and just had his worst year in his HC career with an average SOS and during the year by which he was supposed to have led us to the promised land.

That said, I am still fully in Josh’s corner.

A LOT will depend on what happens within the next couple of months. His hire of Jim Knowles was dangerous, because of the complexity.

He absolutely needs to clean house on defense and replace many players with transfers. Danny needs to open the checkbook. Older players will be built better and pick up Knowles’ defense more quickly.

We need to find a really good kicker in the portal, also. We lost two games we would have won had kicks gone through.

I get Josh doesn’t take his own health and fitness seriously, most coaches don’t. But he is rubbing off on them too much and it’s starting to look like he is playing out there.

Defense should feel like a bunch of sissies after this year, and OL can join them. Do we recruit too many mamas boys? Is that our problem, or do we have a problem at the helm of S&C? Perhaps both.

Side question: Should we have let them score at the end after converting the 4th before the to

Don’t think too much into this bowl game. A long way to next season. We are getting old waiting for a championship. Let’s see what we do in basketball.
I appreciate your contribution, but I am looking at his entire career. He’s had a LOT of luck which has bought him time. His decision to move on from Banks was the 3rd best decision he could have made and he has 2 more to make if he wants to make it himself and bring us to the promised land.

I’ll tell you how the new DC hire works out…..this time next year.

I do give JH some credit. At least he realized status quo on defense would be disastrous in 26. The only problem is will this new guy need 2-3 years to install what he wants to do? Will Vol fans be patient with 8-5, 7-6 type seasons in 26 and 27?

Can I ask for the other two, even if generally speaking??

Yes. I noticed it took Venebles 3 years to field a good OU defense and he made the playoffs this year. Beat us at home.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think they ran another play where they attempted to advance the ball after the first down. Didn’t they “center” the ball on first down?

Illini should have had a penalty for 12 men on offense breaking the huddle. Hell he was all the way out to wide receiver when he ran off the field. Also the replay for ball spot gave them a timeout back. We missed a FG and a fumble for a TD. We should’ve won but ball bounced in their direction. Music city jinx continues.

Bro we are going to SUCK next year. Bowl game eligibility would be a victory

I think Josh’s seat is officially warm. What a disgrace of a season.

The only reason his seat isn’t hotter is because we suck at attracting coaching talent.

Despite the trash I’m going to get thrown my way for saying - I’ll say it - we are not a tier 1 job. We are not a destination for top coaching talent.

God in hope I’m wrong but the next 2+ years are going to be rough.

Yeah, but we should not have been 8-4, playing Illini in a close Music City Bowl game in year 5. I appreciate your optimism though.

Got out coached again and again and again and again and let's not run the ball 2 times in a row because we want a fast pass game, Moe, Larry or Curly could have called a better game.

He's going into year 6 and he's yet to have one of his recruited QBs be able to win the starting job from a transfer with no time on campus.

If Joey manages to get another year of eligibility, then he'll most likely start again here next year, or we are looking for another portal QB.

There are more issues with this program than Heupel not being able to get the team prepared to play in a crap bowl game.
