S&C Coach Wish List - Who Say You?

What was the deal with him leaving Georgia? Seems like there was some issues but I can’t remember what
I was wondering why he would have left. They won an NC with him as did Bama and LSU. This is what I found:

Inside the process that led Scott Cochran to leave Alabama ...
Scott Cochran left the University of Georgia football program due to a severe, undisclosed health crisis that culminated in a struggle with opioid addiction, leading to an overdose in 2020 and subsequent relapses, prompting his official resignation in February 2024 to focus on recovery, though he initially stepped away in 2021 for mental health. He moved to Georgia from Alabama hoping for a fresh start, but his addiction worsened, and he later founded the American Addiction Recovery Association (AARA) to help others.

Personally, I would welcome this man back. You can learn a LOT from people in recovery, and it’s not like he was snorting lines off of hookers. I worked in the opioid addiction recovery space for 4 years, and many people fall into this sort of thing due to injury.

I bet this one would be close to Ainge’s heart.

I agree BUT if you’re Heupel do you risk your career on a hire like this or do you go after someone without as much baggage?

If we can't get Jon Gruden as HC can we get Jon Jr as strength coach?
I think that’s possible once Gruden Sr. comes to Tennessee. Apparently, he is in line to succeed Boyd whenever he steps down to become the next owner of the Tennessee Titans. Apparently, that’s coming soon. He can then appoint whoever he wants.

I wish the Titans part were true,.. only if he could remain an advisor……..,, to Gruden of course.

Anyone have any knowledge of who are some great S&C coaches out there, and who we might want and target? Seems like there was one we had back around Kiffin/Dooley years that showed before and after pics on the jumbo-tron at the games. And the results were amazing. It actually brought ooos and aahhs from the crowd. I’m not sure who it was though. I remember one guy we had was a former Navy SEAL or green Beret or something. Thoughts anyone?

Deuce Gruden he's young, he can relate to the players, has high football IQ and would be a promotion from associate s/c coach for Raiders

That’s not a lot of baggage IMO. He’s been one of the best in the business, and S&C has a degree of immediate impact that is unlike any other role.

It’s highly unlikely the guy comes in and just suddenly stops popping pills again. And it’s not like his teams stopped performing.

He’s in his 50’s, founded a recovery institution—odds are statistically low that happens.

So, the risk is low,

Honestly though Huepel should probably let Knowles and Garner have major input on the S&C coach hire. They know who they've worked with over the years that produced strong/violent players.
I think input would make sense, considering the original hire S&C stunk from the beginning. I remember reading about all the coaches and then getting to that one only to have a different feeling about it. Huepel’s initial staff sans Schmidt and Erlabee was solid.

The other day I had a Big Ten game on, might have been the conference championship, and my wife pointed out that a lot of those linemen looked big and burly, where many of ours just kinda look tall and fat. Being 320 pounds doesn't mean much if a quarter of that is bad weight. We need some of those lumberjack types like Indiana has. I bet the right S&C coach can turn Sanders and Perry into just that.
