I hope we get Ethan Davis more involved next season

In our coaches defense I think we utilized him pretty well once he got back from injury
I like our scheme for the most part. But by design it doesn’t utizile tight ends much outside of blocking for RPOs I think. I’m convinced if we had Brock bowers at tight end, he wouldn’t have been used in the passing game enough. I guess that’s my point

Agree but I've been watching the Vols since 1950 when I was 9 years old and we never have. Jason Whitten was way underutilized. He caught 68 passes in 20 games.

If we were better at making offensive adjustments we could have slipped our TE’s out from blocking schemes for short passes to counter the deep safety play of Illinois in MCB.

I am still scratching my head at JA’s comments after the game “that we did not want to press the way they were playing their safeties”. Why not???? Its the ONE game we say doesn’t count. It’s the freakin bowl game and we decide to give JA a game with clean sheets and watch his 200 yd streak go away??? It was literally one of the only games all season he did not throw a pick or picks. I also saw a post that Mike Matthews was going to have the “breakout game” since Brazzell was out. Far from that with really NO attempts to him downfield. We were playing a UNRANKED team. The deep ball was our bread and butter all season so either attempt it or adjust if it’s not there.

If we utilized our Tight Ends in the passing game more in MCB for the short stuff that was open, JA still would have his 200 yd streak intact.

They had Fant lined up everywhere. Haven't had a TE that versatile since. Davis appears to be more athletic so I'm hoping he can be utilized the same.
