Last year the Vols were not...taking only 7 players and losing that many or more. Vandy took 24 and significantly improved their physicality on the LOS. In this era management of your roster via NIL more important than recruiting though recruiting remains important as well. But allocation of money to construct the best roster is what matters most. Remains to be seen if the Vols can adapt to the new model. A repeat of last year's NIL will leave the Vols lagging behind even more schools.

Have you checked the activity in the portal? Maybe bring a bit more info to the thread if you include that

On defense, we need a "Deion Sanders" level roster flip! On offense we need a qb, a true center, a running back, and 1 or 2 other depth pieces on the o-line. All in all, we need to sign about 15 out of the portal.

If not very active with quality decisions made the program is going to take another slide down the rung.

Portal this year is absolutely critical to future success.

No we don't need that kind of roster flip on defense.

How many people have you seen enter the portal from defense????

I swear you people can't figure out nothing.
Knowles didn't come here thinking the cupboard was bear. He came because he is aware of the existing talent.

Either Banks sucked or our talent is crap. Well Banks was fired...

I saw one young defender who flashed and that was Perlotte. Redmond obviously starts, so he is the 2nd. Did you see more???

And I'm telling everyone they're looking through a skewed lens.

Banks was fired.

FAROOQ, Spillman, Ross, Redmond, Dye, Perlotte, Harmon, Utley, and more are all guys that have immense potential
1) need competitive depth
2) Need a DC that knows what they're doing
3) need COMPETITIVE DEPTH

Banks screwed himself as he built competitive depth in 2024. It took him 4 years to do it then it pissed it away in one Off-season.

Again

HOW MANY DEFENSIVE PLAYERS HAVE LEFT FOR THE PORTAL? Answer the damn question.

Defense is slow in general and no strength or toughness. Need 10 minimum on defense minimum and more would be better.

Can't roll with potential anymore. Heupel needs legit players yesterday. His grace period expired with the Vanderbilt game, and he's officially on the clock.

There are more than 4,000 Division I football players currently in the NCAA transfer portal, which opened Friday.

I expect Tennessee to get between 20 - 30.

If there was a roster that needed to be gutted, it's this one. Same for this coaching staff.

Do you really believe that? Do you think this recruiting class was cheap? Did Heupel make a conscious choice to sign 27 expensive high school players? He sure did. To imply he doesn’t have portal money is the biggest bit of gaslighting I’ve seen today.

Did Rick Barnes go outside the lines to get the money for Ament? He sure did. Heupel is steering the ship. Last year he chose to be pokey in the portal. This year, he chose to sign a large incoming class, despite being the youngest team I. The league? Do I think that’s stupid? Yes.

There’s so much more to success than how many players you take in the portal.
Perhaps, but at this point in time and considering our coaching staffs eval history, the portal is the only thing that matters and it's our only hope.
