I get that he is young, but this is basketball, not football. you're supposed to be able to step on the court and have immediate positive impact. how are his skills so far off of college ready?

Cooper Flagg was just as highly rated and he dominated all of college basketball last year.

with all the missed shots and free throws how did Ament get this highly rated? where was the "miss" in his evaluation as a player?

Barnes should have spent the money on older, more proven players. Ament might be great....someday. Sadly, it won't be this year.

yeah but I think this walks past the point I was making.

when you recruit a guy this highly rated it shouldn't be a guess what you're getting. look at all those players Calipari got at Kentucky that were one and done very highly rated and went right to the NBA.

this kid Ament is no where near that level of player and how is that? if you're literally rated the best in the country?

I havent read any comments... I have watched games against our easiest opponents, Houston, Kansas, Illinois and now arkansas... Nate Ament is maybe not just the worse 5 star player or TN 5 star player I have ever seen, but worse UT basketball player who has ever started. Big Rick Barnes fan here but he has gotta go. I have been saying he needs to bench him since about game 2 vs Div 3 U. He sucks. Would be easier on him minus the millions or hundreds of thousands... if he hasn't been motived yet, read this... you suck! This is the least amount of UT basketball I have watched in over 15 years because he should be a bench player and lucky to get in.

Barnes gotta go?

Maybe the dumbest comment of all time in the BB forum

He wasn't the no. 1 recruit in the country

He’s a 6’10 guard that was able to shoot and use his size as an advantage in high school.

He had a skill set that NBA teams thrive for.

However, sometimes it doesn’t always translate to the next level considering he’s going up against guys that are much bigger and stronger than him.

Right now he’s not physical for this type of play.

Can he improve? Yes but some NBA team is going to take a chance on him and try to fix his issues.

I’m convinced like many others in here that you suck. Maybe the worst fan ever. You’ve gotta go. Read this….you suck. Hmmm. Wonder if this really works?

There are 7-8 other freshmen I’ve seen that are better than Ament right now.

He wasn’t the highest rated. Top 5. Boozer is more physically gifted.

Ament has talent. It’s there. Just needs to physically and mentally develop. We won’t get a finished product but going he plays his best college ball in March.

Ament in the NBA???? And we wonder why the NBA is a terrible product. If I owned a team and my GM wasted a 1st round pick on him next year... he'd be fired. Dude will need SEVERAL years to allow his balls to drop. He isnt particulalry good at one thing. He's tall. He MAY develop into that level of player, but he is LIGHT YEARS away. He's a pick the Wizards would make.

The NBA drafts off of upside. I guess his upside is he is 6’10.

He can’t shoot. His percentage is around 25% from 3. He is a poor free throw shooter. I didn’t see that he is particularly impressive at anything.

Potential is a hard thing to argue and a hard thing to predict. He could end up being an NBA contributor . . .

But all I got right now is he is 6’10 and looks ok for a highly rated frosh.

He can’t shoot. At all. He shoots airballs from 3. Today he put up one that looked like a middle schooler shot . . . And he was open / not closely guarded.

He is long and does defend well at times.

I’ve seen plenty of guys like him develop his shot once he starts his professional career. When all you do is shoot and practice, it comes. He also needs a couple of years to naturally mature his body.

With this roster, he needs to be Kevin Durant for this team to be that Elite 8/Final 4 type of team. He's not KD.

Hopefully it clicks for him in the next month or so....

The same could be said of Acuff. Kid is a 5 star and lives up to the ranking. No idea what Barnes saw and was thinking with Ament. Maybe he saw the next Durant? Regardless, it is what it is. He either comes of age and becomes the player everyone thought he'd be or he flops and maybe returns to UT next season or transfers.
