27 years ago tonight we won the BCS National title and our second consensus national title it was the first since 1951 although i guess we count 6 national titles now. What were some of you guys great memories of that nigh? how old were you? i was 20 years old. What was going on in your lives at the time ? and yea im sure some of you weren’t even born yet or too young to remember it but i love to hear the stories and memories of that January night when the Vols were on top of the college football world.

Was 34 living in Columbus Ohio at the time. Was even sweeter because OSU felt they deserved to be in Championship game, they would have been if they didn’t blow it against Michigan State. Funny, the local Columbus Sports station did a simulation championship game between the Vols and the buckeyes with announcers and crowd noise. Obviously OSU won. Wife at the time wasn’t interested, she went up to bed. Daughter was 8 at the time. Thought we were gonna blow the game near the end, thankfully we didn’t. After the win, opened up a small bottle of champagne, went outside, it was freezing but didn’t matter. Came back inside, went on the AOL Tennessee Vols chat group for a bit and we were all so happy. One of the greatest days for us Vol fans.

I was 29 at the time (wow, time flies) and was watching the game with guys that have gotten together and watched the Vols almost every time they are on tv since '95 when I came home from the Service. It was special since it was John Ward's last game. Another friend (Georgia Fan) was there and the fact it was supposed to be Keith Jackson's last game was the cherry on top.

Reminds me of 1996 when Vols played OSU in Citrus Bowl: Bill Duff stuffed Eddie George & John Ward's immortal phrase: "He did NOT make it!"

I was 17 and about to graduate drom high school. Watched the game at a girl's house. She ended up mad at me, as I watched the game with her dad.

He took my advice when I told him to turn on John Ward instead of the tv commentary, just before the game was sealed away. It ended being an awesome moment. I'll always have a soft spot for him.

I miss Don.

I desperately want my actual dad to get to share a moment like that with me. He's in his 70s and diabetic. We talked on the phone right after the outcome was clear in 98. I want to be in the room with him for the next one.

I was wrapped up doing facilitating Y2K efforts with the health care company I worked for. Had to miss the trip to Tempe. Watched with family at home.. Probably the only football title that will happen in my lifetime.

I was 26 then. We flew to Vegas for a few days then drove to Scottsdale. It was an awesome experience. I ran into friends before and after the game near the stadium.

Much later after the game the only restaurant open in Scottsdale was a Dennys. It was packed with UT & FSU fans. Everyone shared tables. The FSU fans at our table said “See you at Dennys on Bourbon St. next year”. If only?!!!

I was 17, watched the game nervous until the bomb to Peerless. Felt great at school the next day hearing guys who pulled for FSU make excuses. That roster was loaded.
