William Satterwhite to the portal

Another Elarbee recruit that didn’t work out. What is he like 2 for 15 or something?
Well, they don't usually "work out" as first year freshmen. And with today's portal world, there is much pulling at them to be gone elsewhere before they are 4-yr or 5-yr men. So, OL development was always a patient process; but now it's just a bit more complicated, a challenge to get em to both develop and stay; or just try to lure ones already developed elsewhere (but not "your own" recruits). 🤔🤷

a poster on another site shared this. you make some points but i think it’s fair to at least question his ability to evaluate HS talent

A lot of these guys just don't want to wait. Nichols started at Ark. he just didn't want to sit behind Coop. Johnson started at Colorado he didn't want to compete with Perry and Sanders.. Bussell and Duncan medically retired. Warren, Satterwhite, and Anderson don't want to compete and don't want to keep sitting. Lang started for Troy didn't want to be a depth piece. Clipper started for UNC Charlotte, again didn't want to be a depth piece. Credit to Ginther, Moore, and Grant for sticking around and being special team guys and depth pieces.

What can Heupel do? Wasn't the guy in his wedding party? Plus, Heupel ain't on an island somewhere when player evals are taking place....or is he?

On top of that, his QB evals are more than a little suspect. How are we where we are going into year 6? And while we're going down this road, let's not pretend there aren't several positions that are weak due to poor evals and/or development. The buck stops with Heupel. Everything falls on his decisions.

I mean my blue don’t didn’t work.

Sorry I was using sarcasm to reinforce your point that we haven’t developed o-lineman and missed in evaluations
For a time, I mistakenly thought Heupels offensive scheme would allow us to do more with less. I underestimated this league and it's DCs. I also completely overestimated Heupel and this staffs ability to eval and develop players.

What a turn of events. Now I feel as if there's no light at the end of a long, dark tunnel much less a train coming. At least that would put me out of my misery. Oh well...another year or two and we'll be flirting with Kiffin again anyway.

This morning's paper in Baton Rouge says LSU cuurently has 2 returning starters on the OL, and 7 OL gone into the portal since it opened last week. Not sure if the 7 includes one guy who entered it then came back.

Of this list, Sanders was high end 5*

Sham isnt replacement level. He might get there. He plays because no one else has panned out.

Perry is the "win" of the bunch but so far, he's shown to be a low end starter at best. Clearly young and should hopefully improve. But in 5 years, this shouldnt be the internal development story...
