Since Rick Barnes took over we improved every year.
Majority of teams were 3-4 year guys and a few 1 and dones or graduate transfers.
Getting guys like Knecht and Lanier spoiled us and played the role they were given perfectly .
For the most part all our teams already had chemistry together before 1-3 “new players” came in.
Right now it’s literally the opposite.
Boswell, Estrella, and Okpara are the ONLY guys with 1 season with the program.

Estrella has been here 2 years, we also definitely haven’t improved every year since he took over, not sure how you came to that conclusion.
It sure did feel like the program got better each year to me. Multiple sweet 16 to back to back E8 isn’t improvement to you?
Yes you are right about Estrella but I was factoring his season injury. I don’t know how much time Boswell got last year but I know it was minimum.

yes the team did improve with every year. but it depends on how you judge that improvement. for me it started with knowing with each game we had a team that was going to compete until the final buzzer. we had a solid defensive squad every year. we had teams that understood the system. but this year as you stated we have basically a new squad. this team is very talented in so many ways. but the problem this year is the expectations are killing us when we see missed FT after missed FT costing us. but what i am hopeful is that all our teams seemed to peak before tourney time. I'm hoping this team through the grind of the SEC mesh and are really finding their grove come March. Backup PG is the real issue right now along with the FT shooting. Everyone including myself are wondering about Ament and is he ready for this grind. And we all know that as of now he isn't. But each game i see little strides. Im hopeful he figures it out before tourney time.

Lanier, and Knecht did not light it up at first. It took them a while then they went off on other teams. This team does not have a leader like Ziegler. I think Amari Evans needs some more playing time.

If you post each years results since Barnes took over you’ll quickly see that we didn’t improve each year

Missed majority of last year with major injury and was unable to work very much on conditioning, and basketball fundamentals. He is currently playing better than our other 5's. In fact, he is our best offensive player at that position. By the way, he also makes free throws.

We didn't improve from 18-19 to 19-20. We took a pretty big step back and likely wouldn't have made the NCAAT if we had one.
My response wasn't absolute. I am certainly aware of those years. The ascent upwards from Barnes arrival to that 18-19 year was pretty phenomenal. Certainly we took a step backwards from 18-19 to 19-20. Since then the trend upwards has been more gradual. I think last year was his best coaching job. We really didn't have a top 5 roster, but played to that level

The Rick Barnes era of Tennessee basketball Is the greatest in Tennessee history. From 5 star players, quality teams, tournament advancement, and overall record. I did not research this info, this is just an off the cuff opinion. I just know our overall Team success under Barnes has been great. I will be the first to admit, I did not expect this kind of long term success under coach Barnes teams. It has been an unexpected blessing for sure.

Not to be lost is that Barnes is an awesome human being and has had an incredible impact on countless young men under his tutelage.

I agree whole heartedly with this post and @kiddiedoc. My "what?" was in reference to another guy's post stating Barnes' had not steadily improved the team over the years

2019-2020 was the worst year Barnes had. We lost Turner to injury so we were without a good point guard. Luckily Covid canceled the NCAA tournament because we were not good enough to get in.

Other than that year, we always had a pretty good point guard.

You are right , but I think I was looking at specific teams/rosters progressively getting better. We seemed to trend up every season and then back a step because of youth, but eventually improve . But now , with the portal you can get experience right away (Michigan ) . I originally thought our expectations was at least another E8 but my bar has lowered.
