I don't think the chances of Joey returning are looking good.

And now I'm not as confident in my previous idea that we're planning on starting George next year. The reason is Ole Miss giving Trinidad a new NIL deal contingent on him getting another year of eligibility. He probably does have a little better chance of getting it than Joey, but if we had any confidence in Joey returning, why wouldn't we do the same deal? And if we were planning on starting George, why wouldn't we do the deal with Joey? I didn't realize they could/were doing contingent deals like was done for Trinidad. But after seeing that, I think the only reason we haven't is we are planning on adding a fill in QB for a year. I don't know if I 100% agree with it, but it seems like things are pointing in that direction...

On the other hand, maybe we are planning on doing the same deal but it just hasn't been finalized or announced yet? If we don't hear anything about one this week I think we're moving on from Joey. I think we have to at that point.

MacIntyre is just too skinny. I was noticing in warmups at the MCB, he hasn't put any meat on from the waist down. I've heard too many QB gurus state that is a warning sign. Need a solid base.... having a healthy butt and legs are crucial

Don't think even Heupel is stupid enough to risk waiting on Aguilar and find himself facing that schedule with 2 inexperienced QBs.

My guess is that we've got one targeted but not in the portal yet. No reason to spook either of our guys into the portal. Let it simmer for now. Wait until the portal closes and/or all the decent opportunities for a transfer have been filled.

C is the answer in my mind. You can't wait and hope. You get your guy from the portal and let the chips fall where they may with Aguilar. If Simpson jumps in and he's the choice, great. But if there's a guy that fits on the field and budgetarily, you lock him down now. You can't wait on Simpson or Aguilar. He who hesitates is lost.

Part of the Trinidad "deal" could be just showing confidence in him. He potentially has 2 more games and could win a Natty for them.

Showing that Ole Miss has confidence in him and will completely support him as best they can is probably a good thing to do for the least accomplished QB still in the CFP whose performance more or less dragged them into the quarterfinals.

They lose nothing if he doesn't win and might gain a lot by building the kid's confidence by putting it out there now.

That's not to say we don't have deals ready or in place for our QBs but there's nothing gained by making them public.

how do we know if Joey has a deal or not? Could be one contingent on a ruling this week OR if they can't get someone from the portal they like.

they wouldn't announce a deal with Joey while pursuing portal QBs..

is he skinnier than Tyler Bray was? I honestly don't know, but he looked like the goal posts his first 2 years.

The Trinidad situation and the Joey A situation are completely different.
Trinidad is asking the NCAA for an additional year based on the fact that he had his tonsils removed and missed most of a season medically, but not a football-related medical issue.
A medical redshirt has never been granted for a non-football injury where playing time was missed...that's what he is suing to get.

Joey, Diego, and the class action gang are asking that their Juco time not be counted towards their number of years of NCAA eligibility.
They are citing the Baylor Basketball player, Nnija (sp?), that actually signed an NBA deal and played professionally in Europe but has now been granted NCAA eligibility.
The lawsuit is attempting to make that an apples to apples comparison (playing time in a league other than an NCAA sanctioned league).

Like most others, I think there are some things happening behind the scenes and Heupel isn't relying on the lawsuit settlement to decide on a QB.
I don't really agree that G Mac isn't big enough in the lower body to handle the SEC - others have played at a high level that have a similar build...Jayden Daniels, Jaylen Hurts, Tyler Bray, etc.
Another HUGE postive G Mac has is time in the system and by all accounts he is a very, very quick decision maker.

All of that said, I think either next year's starter isn't yet in the portal or is in the portal but not committed,.

True, but you do have to admit in those first couple of years it looked like Bray was riding out there on a couple of stick ponies.
Late Sophomore / summer into his Junior year things seemed to catch up physically.

Agree, G Mac doesn't have Bray's arm, but I think (in the limited subset we have available) that G Mac makes a quicker decision and has a quicker release than Bray did, so I think that helps.

Bray’s frame was never this small. George’s legs are tiny.

As to your last comment, how could you possibly know that? Mac hasn't played against any real SEC competition and the heat the defenses bring with it

Great kid, wonderful story....but he doesn't need another year....and honestly what another fumble 6 or pick 6 that eventually causes us a game, homie seems great but is a turnover machine in the absolute worst times....meh

Sometimes it’s better to just move on. Look at Fulmer and Peyton’s freshman year. Behind the scenes, Fulmer did NOT push for NCAA to give the starting QB a medical redshirt. Even though Peyton was the future, I thought that was dirty.
