How has his portal performance been? Anybody got the actual rankings?

If I recall, we missed on a lot of transfer targets last year.

I think how we've managed the portal and nil money is fair game. How can we make it better.

Not great, not bad. We've gotten some good talent from the portal. Some of our best players over the last 2-3 years have come from the portal. But also missed on some guys. McCoy and Hood were portal guys and weren't really hyped, especially not Hood, and they're both projected 1st round draft picks.

He is trying to do things the old way and you can't, you must go 50/50 on HS recruiting and portal players, and any school who does not do this will not win a natty. It could be worse though, look at what the Idiot at Clemson is doing. Also you can't go full Florida State and take ALL portal players. Right now I feel Josh is like 75/25 favoring highschool, and that's an Issue.

I don't think you realize you're asking to be in a bidding war every year with teams that have exponentially more money than us

I'm not asking anything. I'm saying how it is, if Tennessee can't keep up it is what it is. Gone are the days were you develop players from HS for 3-4 years unless they are already highly rated, look at how many 5 star busts at QB there have been these past few years. The truth is this is the best thing for those lower rated players also, its better for them NOT to come sit on the bench but go to a smaller school and get playing time, then transfer out later.
Josh has been trying too hard to get 3stars from highschool when we can go get better players NOW from smaller schools, all with college playing time. It's not even about the big names and money, it's about common sense, why gamble on 3 star highschool players when you can get known players with actual playing time?

He's addressing needs first and foremost. The DB pickup was huge. MHO opinion is that the money should be spent mostly on glaring and important needs rather than volume. The heightened HS recruiting is key much like the draft in the NFL. They don't cost as much in the beginning and he can select those worthy of increases in a couple of years if those who have developed and are part of the longer plan

I read on On3 we are Top10 in football NIL. Oregon and a handful of others have 50-100% more than us. There are 5 or 6 programs with money in another tier above us.

And that will be his downfall.

You're blaming Heupel for us not having the money to go out and get dudes that other schools are throwing $3-5M at. You can't rely on being able to just go buy a whole new team in the portal every year. That's an extremely volatile strategy vs building a team through development and filling holes with the portal. If we had $40M every year, I'd agree. We don't.
