I know it's not what some people want to hear, but gone are the days of prioritizing highschool talent over transfer portal talent. We are seeing the top coaches use it over gambling on 5 star highschool players. Look at how many busts we had in recent years of highly rated highschool QB's. The truth is many programs, some who are still in the CFP, prioritize the transfer portal as much if not more than HS recruiting.
Honestly it makes sense to do this... you always hear the best way to get better, to developed, is by getting in game experience, something younger players and 3 star players wont get if they go to a larger college out of highschool. Many players that did this are now transferring out to poverty football programs like
Kentucky
using up their last few years just to get on the field when they should have gone there, or a smaller school, from the start.
it seems the times have changed, and trying to find good highschool players is riskier than the transfer portal option, It's a safer option for coaches to take in more transfer portal players with real playing time, than to develop those players who could be busts. For example look at a QB with experience like Joey, compared to an unproven HS kid like Nico, who got millions of dollars from us.
I want to make it clear, I'm not saying the portal should be used more than HS recruiting, but that it needs to be 50/50. Maybe even 60/40 in some years depending on a teams needs. You can't go too light like Clemson, and you can't go too heavy like FSU, but it needs to be treated as just as important.
Now, all of that being said, let the hate posting commence from the contrarians out there!
