Last night's game between Miami and Ole Miss was all about the trenches and it was a spectacular chess match in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Sure, the QBs made star QB plays but everything started upfront for both and in the end Miami won the war after losing some of the battles.

It's hard to see Miami losing the way they are dominating the line of scrimmage of both sides. They can just wear you down.

The team that dominates the line of scrimmage, most likely will win most games. Just tried and true and has, is and always will be the case.

I've seen panic on VolNation recently about having no edge players. The Vols have guys that can play end and I know a transfer DT is coming in. Until the Vols get bigger, stronger and faster at DT and LB they really have no legit shot long term.

Does Tennessee close out of January portal season with more depth inside on defense?

Thats actually a good trivia question. Has there ever been a team to win the natty that was considered LOS challenged?

S&C has been a concern for a while and that usually doesn’t pay dividends out of the gate. Heupel is avian in cruise control as his team gets fatter and more out of shape.

I knew Miami was tough in the trenches but I was surprised how well their offensive line dominated. Or maybe it was how weak OL Miss defensive tackling was. They couldn’t stop Miami’s running game. When it appeared a Miami running back would be stopped, they would break tackle or churn forward for 3 more yards. After OL Miss went ahead with 5 minutes left, I felt certain certain that Miami would get a touchdown or a tying field goal if penalties didn’t stop them.

Teams that have a good O-line and D-line year after year always have a chance. Until CJH gets enough top recruiting classes in to keep this going. He needs to hit the portal. You can recruit a good class but if you do not have them ready in 2 or 3 years or so. Not going to help you much.

How would one even go about answering that?
Can't really. You can survive in other conferences with less all around talent and smaller divisions of football with undersized linemen and depth if you can fling it around and get creative, but when you play the big boys week in and week out game after game, if your not winning upfront you have no real shot.

The Vols are soft or were soft in 2025 for some reason. Lack of depth at critical positions was the real legit issue, but guys noticably taking plays off or just quitting on plays was extremely concerning to see. The news of a formerly highly recruited end leaving a few days ago, that particular player took plays off and was also rumored to be stating about transferring around mid season. That kind of player is NOT going to be giving you anywhere close to 100%. That's actually a quitter or loser mentality to have. It's nearly impossible to vet players and know who's basically going to quit and not, but that's all the more reason that you have to have tons of depth because unfortunately in this climate you will have players with this loser, selfish mentality.

Weird cause the compliant this year was that they were not “fat” enough on the Dline…

Bully ball is my favorite type of ball.

LSU team with Burrow wasn't challenged...but they were not great on the LOS and neither was the defense.

They had Burrow putting together THE best season ever by an SEC QB though and could score at will even on loaded teams like Bama. They had a Pro Bowl NFL WRs and Burrow placing the ball exactly where he wanted it at will though. That's the most beautiful passing offense I have ever seen in college. It was ridiculous.
