What are your most annoying Ref calls i.e. "unwritten rules" during a game?

My biggest gripe ever in football at least (from the end of the game last night), is that referees will not EVER call pass interference (either way) on a Hail Mary.

Just because it's the end of half/game doesn't mean you can hold and drag down the WR in the endzone, yet it happens all the time in games

Not so much an unwritten rule but consistency, which is worse in basketball but happens in football too. If something is a hold, PI, late hit, whatever, call it consistently and if it's a penalty in the 2nd quarter then it's a penalty on the last play of the game.
Ha, like in the last minute of a blowout in basketball, but they won't call a foul unless someone gets decapitated

The whole targeting nonsense and"roughing" the passer when a hand or arm touches the poor babies helmet.

Reminded me of the end of the BE tourney game between Georgetown and Villanova in 08.

Nova very clearly fouled GTown at the very end of the game that would have otherwise went to overtime but it gave 2 FTs and the win to the Hoyas. Jay Bilas went bonkers and called it a crime against humanity. Such a clown

A few things. I despise circumstantial officiating - “We call this in these circumstances, but don’t call it in those circumstances.” Or when they call the two halves differently. Or the ol’ “If they called it that way then they should call holding on every play.” Well then it’s not actually a rule, is it? Just a tool officials can use to punish a team when they subjectively decide something is too egregious. Call it or don’t call it but BE CONSISTENT.

Second, I hate that offensive players
were and still are allowed to lower their head/helmet and manufacture targeting penalties. It’s stupid, but then, a good chunk of “targeting” penalties are stupid too. It’s as subjective a rule call as anything out there sometimes.

Finally, I hate the man in the red hat. He’s not a ref but he wears a hat and makes games worse so he kind of qualifies in my book.

Especially in basketball, "well boys, Tennessee is up 7 Foul calls so we need to even it up in 2nd half"

I hate penalties that are called and have no impact on the play whatsoever Ex. a defender holding a receiver 20 yards opposite of a running play.
Agreed! Remember the 2004 SEC title game where we lost by 10 and had not one but TWO long TDs called back for holding on the opposite side of the field?

- DPI on an underthrown ball. I get it, they have to call it, but it's such a cheap call. Also, PI in college should be a spot foul, like the NFL rule. There's still a pretty big incentive to commit PI on a deep ball in college.

- The ejection for targeting in college. If it isn't reckless or malicious, I think you give officials the option to let the yardage stand but remove the ejection. Make it like a facemask penalty. The vast majority of the time (just like facemask penalties), these aren't intentional, reckless, or malicious fouls. It's a defender trying to make a play and there's a last second move that exposes the offensive player's head to contact by the defender.

- Situations where officials are obviously using replay as a crutch, and/or wait way too late to decide to review the play.

- Soft roughing the passer calls.

The “unwritten rule” that Bama and Georgia should never get called for holding, especially when said teams are at risk of losing. The “unwritten rule” that if a Georgia coach moves his hand or finger or really any part of his body, it means he’s calling for a timeout. The “unwritten rule” that if you are returning a kickoff in Tuscaloosa and move your finger or hand at all you will get called for a fair catch penalty nobody has ever heard of, especially if home team is behind during the infraction.
