VOLS recruiting class now #3

This without counting the Safety we just landed. Maybe the premature wailing and gnashing of teeth will stop. There's always a couple trolls and Negas though...

Marcus, the wailing and gnashing of teeth is what we do around here. It's Tennessee fandom tradition. I mean, what kind of fanbase would we be if we didn't do that? People would think less of us. But I like having the #3 class, indeed.

Indiana LOS dominating both sides against everyone. We haven't even shown flashes of looking like that. And they're doing it without the #3 ranked class in the nation. So what's the solution? It's obviously not 5 star talent. Is it strength and conditioning? Accountability? Coaching?

The average age of this Indiana team is 23. I think age and maturity may have something to do with it. We had one of the youngest rosters in the country this year and the youngest roster in the SEC. If we get some older players and develop the young, I think we'll improve tremendously IMO.

this is the key. Old teams with talent win out over young teams w/ 5*s all over the field...most of the time.

Another key is keeping as much young talent while they are developing. I haven't seen a comparison on portal exits vs other SEC teams, but it seems JH keeps more than he loses, not counting ones who over value themselves and are better off somewhere else....much because of JH family culture he seems to have forged, and obviously, this is a special place to play CFB!

Ah...you mean the portal class. Title was a bit confusing.
Believe it‘s a combination of the HS and portal signees/commits.

Yep. Both classes combined. Across the ranking services. So the best cumulative ranking of all new players coming in for the 2026 season (in theory).

We aren't close to done yet in the portal. Had several more guys on campus today and scheduled. Hubbs said that Monday thru Wednesday will be a dead period because of the coaches convention.

Just checked portal rankings...this is nuts...don't know how you manage this as a coach if you're trying to establish benchmark culture. Some, like PSU, obviously have no choice.

Thanks for the info. Appreciate it.

It’s a cumulative ranking of recruiting and transfers. People are going to find something to bitch and moan about though.
Right. It's so stupid. I honestly respect and like opposing teams fans much more than the NegaVols constantly complaining about everything. Some people are going to complain no matter what UT does...because they are miserable people. Misery loves company, and Johnny Majors was right.

I think veteran players has a lot to do with it.

Good thing we have already made changes to both coaching and strength and conditioning. Also, Indiana brought in a ton of people from the portal... like we are.
