During the bowl game I heard the announcers talking about the hours Illinois staff did preparing for the game and during their interviews they said the Tennessee offense is very predictable. I found that concerning since there are times I can predict the next run up the middle play. I hope Heupel brings in some fresh blood into the offensive system and actually gives up some of the play calling duties. I think that would help improve his clock and game management which isn't very good at times.
Now onto the OL play and development, this is the weak spot of this offense, through the first 5 years we have developed only 3 High school kids to be starters, Perry, Sanders and Umarov. If Elarbee is such a good OL coach, why can't he develop some of the talent that has been recruited out of high school. There has been some decent talent recruited. If it wasn't for the portal the OL would suck even worse and there have even been more misses than hits using the portal. I know he has been with Heupel for a long time but at some point you have to consider upgrading if you want to take the next step, meaning making the Playoffs. Thoughts????

We've got a Swiss Cheese hull on board the SS Heupel right now, so not sure we can afford to upgrade any additional coaching positions. We are the dog chasing it's tail but, we need to continue to have faith in CJH and his staff to:
1. Recruit the best possible players (from college, JR Colleges, foreign countries, walk-ons, Walmart, etc.)
2. Get them on campus and signed up for classes
3. Keep them out of trouble and get passing grades
4. Prepare these young men for war on the field with excellent coaching
5. Keep them happy
6. Coach the games correctly
7. And if they are good, keep them away from the portal and or the NFL

Such an easy job HCs have nowadays, huh??

Every offense is predictable if you do film study. Every offense doesn't execute though. You think people just out there running around?

2nd in total offense in the conference. A first year QB with a tumor on his arm. But hey,,if Jordan Rogers thinks it’s predictable then we should definitely change it up.

If we were going to make changes on the offensive side, I think we'd have done so by now. Of course, we know he's not firing his buddy Elarbee or his alleged OC, Halzle. Pipe dream. He'll be fired or resign before he does that.

It may have been predictable but you still have to stop it. The bowl game was not a normal situation with opt outs and the team really had nothing to play for. Of course I would have liked to see more points put up and a win but it didn't happen. Illinois had a game plan and they executed that game plan. Keep the ball away from our offense.

I also seem to remember earlier in the season several announcers talking about how we had different sets and changed things up too. The offense looked different this year. We still scored plenty of points.

Some more than others. I have not seen much change in the 10-12 -lays we run and we almost run the same plays for each situation the offense finds itself . I realize that Neyland said he would not run a play in a game until they had run it in practice. Back then they had a lot more practice time than we do now. I believe the person calling the plays needs to become creative in his play calling They did change some last year when the call a couple of pass plays last Fall. But defenses review film and seem to anticipate the next play we will call pretty accurately. It could be that the defenses we play have much better plays on defense than we have on offense, or it could be that our formations tell the defenses which plays we have called. This off season and Spring practice would be a great time too address this apparent{real} problem with the offense.

Even if it is predictable...we put up 28 points on them and left several points off the board because our kicker sucked when the game is on the line.
Our D just couldn't get off the field and get a stop. Plus the more stops the the D gets the more opportunity for otfense to run up the score. They go hand and hand. Biggest thing is to try to get balanced on both sides of the ball.

Agree. In my view, Josh needs to stop being the OC after five years being our head coach. He needs to take the play-calling chart out of his hands and start being our head coach.

How many plays do you suppose Indiana runs? I think it is more about execution. They're not executing at a high level. The line was missing blocks and/or not holding their blocks long enough. In some cases the defense knows the plays, but the offense executes at a higher level. For some reason, which they never elaborated on, or I missed the reason, they changed the blocking schemes from last year to this year. I understand wanting to make the defense "think", but if you line up and blow people off the ball, the cute blocking schemes are unnecessary. Bully ball is what Indiana runs.

It is much easier to play defense whe you have a good idea what the offense I’d going t.o run. That is just a fact. It be be altered when talent on one side of the ball exceeds the talent. On the other side of the ball. our offense actually played pretty well in the first couple of games, including Georgia. However, as the season progressed, our offense became more predictable. In addition, compare our second half performances to our first half performances in a number of games you find that our offense became much less efficient in them second half. It seems halftime adjustments were much more effective for their defenses than pour offense did against their defenses. This resulted in keeping our defense on the field more longer than the first half. Result, threy kept our offense off the field and our defense became unable to stop their offense, possibly because of fatigue. and injuries. our offense disappeared in the second half of at least 4 games.

Heupel didn't make the playoffs?
I don’t know that I’d call getting wore out by a 42-17 margin “making it”. More like “weighed, measured, and found wanting.” Yes, Coach Heupel made the playoffs. And immediately found out exactly how much more he needed to do to win there.

I have personally given up any thoughts that Heupel will fire any buddies. Elarbee will be our OL coach until he either quits on his own or Heupel leaves.

Loyalty is definitely a positive personal trait, but I wonder if Heupel takes it too far.

Time will tell

He cleaned house on he defensive side. He could still make a change before Spring practice if the right donors insist on it

“The run up the middle play” lol
🤣. I also hear this so much GAVol. It’s like we are the only team that runs up the middle. It’s not like our offense is near the top in the country every year. These people make my head hurt 🙄🤕

You have to execute the plays better. Tennessee struggled when teams took the deep ball away and made them work the field.. Oline seemed to get worse as the year went on in pass protection.. Bishop is a decent back but you need a 1, 2 punch there and maybe another handful of runs from your QB..
