I guess I'm jumping on the GMac, Faizon, Phillips train. Let's face it, NIL ain't gonna allow it. No potentially starting qb is gonna stick around as a third stringer. Any team that is down to their third string qb's season is done anyway. Phillips, that is if he's still on the roster, has been there in the program for a year. So, you know he's somewhat grasped the process. If he is from Kodak, Tn. , I guarantee you he's a tough country boy. So, there's your 3rd stringer. I wish CJH would quit flirting with qbs in the portal, and get us another rb to help out with the stable. Keep stacking that OL and DL and Safeties. Go with what you got Heup! By the way, judge today, said he couldn't be there for the Joey answer of eligibility. means the portal will close before a decision. Imagine that.

Jim Maxwell got to be the starter when the 3 QBs ahead of him got huet. he led Tennessee to 7 straight wins including beating Penn St in the home final game 31-11 and then Arkansas 14-13 in the Liberty Bowl.

I understand a different era but there is no doubt a school can get to the 3rd or 4th QB in a season.. Several schools got to # 2 this season..

all QBs on a roster are potential starting QBs

Gmac will not win games if he doesn't get to play. if he doesn't get in a game this Fall, we can kiss him good-by too. I know we need a backup QB or possibly a started for early next year. Having Texas early in the season thrill likely be is Fall make having some experience very important. Problem is, if Joey doesn't get cleared, we be in a position to write the Texas game off, unless one of the young guns show a lot in the Spring and Summer. Hopefully, we will have a good competition by Fall practice.

The old saying is true - if you have 2 QBs, you don't have a QB.
But that's a different situation than this...

ONLY way I see Heupel running with G Mac as QB1 is like OP said - buy an ELITE O Line, add another RB to spread the load, and even a big TE to help block.
If you are playing G Mac or the true Freshman, you have to keep him from getting hit.

Just keep this in mind when we hear "It's year 6! No excuses! We shouldn't be losing 5 games!"

Roll with what you've got but when what you've got can't win games, just relax about it? That's not going to happen at UT.

We can't have it both ways. Okay, Josh, just roll with who we have AND it's year 6, we've got to get better players!

I guarantee that the first bonehead play G-Mac makes, the call for Faizon will start.

And if G-Mac isn't ready and Faizon isn't ready, the call will be "why didn't Heupel see that coming? What an idiot to roll with what we had. He should've gone to the portal!"
