It seems to me that Josh is focusing a lot more heavily on acquiring defensive players. Am I incorrect here?

Misdirection. Heupel is playing 4d chess convincing everyone that he's going to roll with a RS freshman and true freshman at qb next season. In reality, he's going to shock the college football world and bring back Nico and Big Nic to Knoxville. You heard it here first.

I don’t want Big Nic around. There were some times this year where I was Nico and thought we could’ve used that . They used him as a runner in ways we didn’t, which may be on him, IDK. He started rough but there are times he looked really good, and we look better if he had a very good offensive line and better weapons around him. It’s his own parentheses his dad as well parentheses fault that he didn’t have that. I have a feeling if he stayed here, he would’ve had a nice year. I doubt he would’ve thrown deep ball as well as Joey did this year though. If it weren’t for his people, I would take Nico back.

Nico got kicked off the team very publicly. Heupel cannot afford to bring him back, ever.

I think we’d like to bring in a more experienced qb for next year but quality has dropped a lot. Wanted to get Leavitt but he got too expensive, wanted to get Pribula but he would’ve been competing for the starting job. I think at current price point and talent level that’s available Josh is good with rolling with GMac, Brandon and whoever the third option is. Joey or a late addition via portal to compete with those two youngsters.

We have a finite amount to spend and I think that finite amount equals more wins with spending on the defensive side of the ball.

Josh: Jim, I want to hire you as our DC.

Knowles: I'll take the job, but not with those Juco kids you had this past season.

We are lethargic overall in the portal in 2025. Knowles is hired, and in 2026 we are active defensively, lethargic offensively.

Gosh. Applying logic, I'm not sure Phlegmatic Josh has changed at all, and it is the arrival of Knowles that is the difference.

But I'm just logical that way. I'm sure it is unrelated, and Heupel just suddenly discovered energy on the defensive side of the ball.
