I hate starting threads but didn't know where to put this.

It's getting late in the portal jumping season and the guys left in the portal are not really exciting.

What if Josh Heupel is waiting on Alberto Mendoza? Cignetti recruited Hoover over Alberto at Indiana but they're still in the playoffs, so jumping isn't necessary for him yet.

Decent QB. Little experience. Thoughts?

He was a 3 star. What makes you think he will be better then G-Mac or Brandon? He will be a R-Freshman like G-Mac and he hasn't played anymore then G-Mac.

Just need another guy to compete. Preferably with experience but 2 scholarship qbs with one of them being a true freshman isn’t ideal.

This is a plug and play for Hoover to Indiana. Mendoza, Freshman. The trend for some is give Freshman time to be better. Mendoza at this point doesn't even sniff the portal unless Cignetti leaves which he will not for a year or two.
Cignetti if desires would be NFL worthy in a few years with continued success.
Time will tell but Mendoza IMO will not hit the TP this year.

But maybe he’s good. This season has taught us that we don’t know until we do lol

I was reluctant to voice this idea but I'm concerned about who Heupel has in mind because the guys left in the portal are really not turning my head and we pursued some higher ranked guys before they went elsewhere.

I'm not okay with the "get a guy and let them fight it out" and even less so after seeing the picture of G-Mac in Miami with the guys.

That's what started this in my head.

Maybe G-Mac and the receiving crew were there not just to watch the CFP game (I'm assuming) but to give someone a look at the receivers at UT.....

It's okay to speculate and it maybe a possibility.

This interview was what brought me to that conclusion.

I didn't say he wasn't good. I said he became a Heisman winner and national champion under Cignetti. Which part of that is not true?
You implied "we don't have a Cignetti" like Cignetti did it for Mendoza. Mendoza was going to be good wherever he was and Cuban's money let Cignetti assemble a great team, not just Mendoza.

To be sure Curt Cignetti is a great, old school style coach but he didn't work a miracle. He bought the right pieces and instilled the right culture of hard work and selflessness.

More importantly we don't have a Mark Cuban.
This is troubling thing for me and the old farts I keep in touch with. UT really doesn't have, as far as I know, that billionaire or multimillionaire who is backing up heavily anymore.

The Haslams are pouring money into the Browns which has genuine ROI for them now that Pilot is a Berkshire company.

We need the kind of money that can drop $30M on us for a year or 3 or 5 and be low key about it (unlike the Haslams wanting some control.)

One of the things Cuban seems to have learned from his time with the NBA is that he isn't a GM or coach and should let the money do his talking.

Guess you have never seen him play--dude is a really good QB
Must be something in the Mendoza genes

That's what great coaches do. He also did it every other place he's been without the benefit of Cuban. Google him.

Cuban has poured money into the NIL collectives to provide additional money to players based on performance - he didn't donate directly to the NIL pool that is being offered to players. It's actually a genius idea because the players get their base NIL and can earn additional money based on performance. It obviously works and when you have a masterful head coach like Cignetti who can put the right systems in place, it works tenfold.

I'm aware he establishes great culture everywhere because he's essentially a Saban clone but Cuban's money lets him buy talent at a much higher level than anywhere else.

He'd win above his playing weight anywhere but having a B1G school and big money and a big culture installed makes him a beast.

Cignetti replacing DeBoer is a nightmare we don't want. Cignetti replacing Day at Ohio State would also be nasty.

NIL supposedly cannot be performance based????
