Teams not allowing Portal players to return?

This is the "market" kind of working itself out. I figured after a couple of years of this, we'd start seeing the other side of the coin wise up to it.

If we are going to support individual player's rights to explore their individual options, we have to expect and support organizations that want to move on because they have legitimate concerns about whether said player's heart will be in it for them. It really is a two-way street like any other relationship.

Sometimes when your girlfriend breaks up with you it is the best decision she will ever make and sometimes it is the worst decision she will ever make.

Hopefully this will be an example for players considering the portal in the future, so they don't always buy the pie in the sky that their "advisors" are selling. It sucks to lose that free path to a degree, especially for those who are unlikely to end up in the NFL.

they should’ve thought of that before entering imo, if you leave the team-the coaches cant wait on you to decide to return

The roster limit created by the settlement will see this happen a lot more. You enter the portal, remove yourself from the roster, and the team will do what they have to in order to get close to the 105 number. If that means there's no room for you, so be it. They cannot wait on you to "test the market". Jobs ride on these decisions, and your roster spot does too now. With FCS and D-II guys moving up, dropping down levels may become your last option, so it behooves players to really know their actual value in the portal before entering. Unfortunately, these agents and advisors tend to blow a lot of smoke up their backsides in the hopes of getting their own benefits, and they convince players they're worth more and better than they may actually be. Have to ensure you have people around you that actually have YOUR best interest in mind, not their own financial best interests. It's far too easy to play "agent" right now and burn these young men.

The next market shift will be the growing disinterest in cfb. People are a bit weary of all the shifting players, the ridiculous payments, and the lack of loyalty. We pay for all of this. And, many schools are having to do more entertainment to keep up fan engagement. This gets old, and sooner rather than later the money will start being spent on better vacations, new cars, home improvements, etc. the sooner the better. Ready for this market to crash.

I am one with a growing disinterest. Unfortunately I have a long term addition to VN that has a hold stronger than nicotine.

Love it if fans just boycotted
You may be kidding but this is the best way to get the attention of all the powers that be. When stadiums across the country are half empty on game day, hopefully the powers that be will wake up and start a dialogue to correct this issue

It’s called accountability. Something we are sorely absent of in our world. You enter the portal with the understanding you are forfeiting your spot. That’s why… if I’m a parent…we ain’t entering a portal and give up the spot we already have. I know I know…there are exceptions 🤷‍♂️.

This should be standard procedure imo. If you want to leave then leave, but don’t come home crying to mommy and daddy whenever things don’t turn out the way you had hoped.
I think many figure they have nothing to lose. They feel like they can force their current school to enter a bidding war, but sometimes they overestimate their value and overplay their hand. In my mind, if you want to stay and want more money take your case to the GM and/or coach. Be up front about it. Don't play games. If you do decide to hit the portal, that tells me you don't want to be at my school and I don't want you at my school. Hope this trend continues.

Agree except the path to a degree, that doesn’t figure in to this at all. Not sure they even go to class any longer. What’s going to happen if they don’t. Get fired ???

Grant, Beasley, and Carter still looking for a home. Word is Carter is probably going to Miami or Ole Miss. Grant may not find a home, if he does it won't be a P4 school. With all the portal pickups no room for Beasley to come back.

I think as NIL deals grow we will start to see roster sizes shrink even though rules allow for 105. Teams are already spending $40-$50M on their current roster. It’s just not sustainable unless you have one of those oil guys are your primary funding partner. If things don’t change schools are going to start getting desperate for cash and doing deals Saudi Arabia money.

yep. Outside of the basic requirements, the function of "playing a sport for an education" has been replaced with what we are rapidly adjusting our eyelids to, and understandably it's a tough pill to swallow for some...fans and players alike
