Staub spent three seasons with Colorado, redshirting in 2024. The redshirt sophomore passer will have two seasons of eligibility left.

Should this deal come together, this is a clear message — this is George MacIntyre’s job to lose.

Staub has played sparingly in Boulder, posting less than stellar numbers in his opportunities. The 6-1, 200 pound quarterback threw for 427 yards in four appearances this season. He threw three touchdowns and four interceptions, completing 54.5 percent of his passes. Staub was a 3-star prospect coming out of California in the class of 2023.

Staub everything with Tennessee fit which is why he quickly decided to be a Vol.

“It was everything,” Staub said of his short visit. “The facilities, the coaching staff here, the culture they have. It all speaks for itself. The city is second to none. It’s amazing. I’m excited to be a Vol.”

Staub said Tennessee’s sales pitch was not really a factor in being a Vol.

“It’s almost what they didn’t do,” Staub said. “There’s a different energy in Knoxville. It’s a place I want to be and I’m excited to get to work here. The coaching staff is awesome. There’s a lot of continuity here. It’s a great system and I think it’s a great fit.

Coach Halzle is awesome. He’s smart. He runs a great offense and he’s a great person. I have enjoyed getting to know him more. I’m just so excited.”

Staub is coming off his redshirt-sophomore season and will have two years of eligibility remaining. He stands in at 6-foot-1 and weighs 200 pounds, originally from Stevenson Ranch, Calif. He appeared in five games in 2025, starting against Houston in week three where he totaled 204 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions on 19-of-35 yards passing. On the season, Staub threw for 427 yards, three touchdowns and four picks while adding 19 rushes for 30 yards and one touchdown. As a redshirt-freshman in 2024, Staub backed up Shedeur Sanders. He appeared in four games and went 0-for-4 passing. He appeared in three games as a true freshman in 2023 with one start against Utah, where he completed 17-of-24 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown to Travis Hunter.

“I think I bring experience, IQ and a guy who is going to add to the room in every way. I’m coachable. I can improve. I’m excited to see where my ability will take me,” Staub said.

it is as suspected, we are riding on GMAC the chosen one. (bringing the guys down to Miami was more than a publicity stunt it was to soft launch the reception, imo)

Staub will come in and compete and give us the 3rd quarterback every team requires

If GMAC takes The Hit, we have two guys ready to go

Staub's game: I like his wheels, not sure yet what I've seen RE his arm strength/accuracy but he seems tough and can negotiate the pocket well. Turnover prone, but so was Joey. He basically hasn't had a QB coach yet so you have to be excited for the prospect of development. Really hard to worry about QB as long as CJH is the guy.

+from general thread

adding that Staub was the primary backup to Shedeur & Kaidon Salter in their respective years while he was at CU, so in terms of opportunities to showcase- they were slim. However, he had the trust to be 2nd string which makes me think he can step into that here and make the entire room better

I think he should be able to push GMAC and Faizon to be better and also provide some mentorship to a degree.

No doubt we had to have 3 QBs. It looks like we have them. There's a good chance at least one will come through big time GBO and welcome aboard Ryan.

Yeah Heupel will get them all ready. We will be fine. Looking at this I now think this was right way to go. No reason to sign a high profile guy just wanting money and rocking the two young players.

Going through clips from Colorado and his senior film, I like this pickup more than I did last night. He's raw and needs coaching, but he has a live arm and some athleticism (more of that on tape from HS, but he's smoother and faster on the move than Aguilar appeared to be). Needs some tweaking on technique and decision making (trusts his arm more than I like in tight windows), but there's something there. He strikes me as an alternate universe Aguilar who ended up buried on a P4 roster out of HS rather than having time to develop his game at JUCO and G5 schools. If nothing else, I'm very curious to see all the QBs this off-season. The offense has some experience in place to help young/inexperienced QBs, so it's not a bad time to break one in.
