According to D1 Baseball, NICHOLLS is no slouch returning 6 regular position players (plus a SS who played a lot off the bench) plus some key portal additions with some solid pitching. Although they are only projected to finish 9th in the Southland Conference, they have plenty of talent.

9. NICHOLLS

Head Coach: Brent Haring
2025 Record: 17-32 (10-20)

Nicholls looks to take another step in the right direction in 2026 returning a fair amount of players to their roster. It starts on the mound with weekend starter Nuno Parache, now a senior who took a big step forward a year ago, going 4-1, 3.81 and a 45-to-18 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 54 1/3 innings. He and second-year lefthander Cole Simoneaux, who both closed (37 Ks in 32 IP, three saves) and started games last year as a freshman, will be turned to provide significant innings on this staff. Also returning valuable experience and innings are Dalton Hill, Joseph Bardelon and Cole Poirrier. Notable portal transfers include 6-foot-8, 235-pound lefthander Austin Vargas, a talented recruit coming out of high school who didn’t make an appearance in two years at Texas A&M, and big-bodied (6-5/275) righthander Owen Schexnaydre, who starred at the JUCO level before spending a year at Louisiana Tech.

Back in the fold on offense six everyday regulars, seven if you count shortstop Andy Miller, a frequent contributor off the bench. Third baseman Carter Jenkins led the team in batting (.326) with right fielder Karson Irvin doing a nice job towards the top of the lineup to get on base, batting .303, posting an OBP of .394 and stealing eight bases. Second baseman Fisher Ingersoll has some pop from the left side of the plate and was a top prospect coming out of high school who began his college journey at TCU. First baseman Aaron Biediger and left fielder Noah Detillier were also in the starting lineup to close the 2025 season. Logan Mock, who saw time as the team’s DH, could catch more this season as could Louisiana transfer Clayton Pourciau, who batted .300 for the Cajuns last year in limited opportunities.

Anybody heard if this iteration of BaseVols plans to keep or change any of the recent home run acknowledgement traditions?

Prepare to hear some fireworks after homeruns! Not sure if the Daddy hat and Fur Coat have been retired. Chris Burke saw both hanging up near the players shower room a few weeks ago. Lol. Just no helmet taps is my wish. Plus, I wish the NCAA would loosen up all their rules post the 2022 team.
