This will be the second time that Tennessee has worn its Dark Mode uniforms this season, with the first coming in a road loss at Syracuse in early December. It will, however, be the first time that fans will get to see the Dark Mode uniforms in action in the Food City Center this season

I wish we'd wear orange at home and white on the road. I don't know why we don't.

Traditionally, the home team wears white in basketball.
You know, a few years back, the NHL did that. All of them usually wore white at home and their colors on the road. That changed to wearing the white on the road, and team colors at home. Never heard the reasoning for doing that, but it seems it was well received. Not sure since I have not made time to go see an Ice Bears game, but I think all of the minor leagues do that now as well. Now I have not watched a NBA game in years, so I have no idea what is the home uniform, and what is worn on the road. But I am betting that if they change it around, the college teams will quickly follow.

I was once told years back that the main reason why home teams wore white at home was the white uniforms held less heat than the dark ones, so it was considered a home court advantage. But with changes and advances in how uniforms are made, that may not be such an advantage.

I've read that teams wore white on the road because the fans would see a greater variety of colors with all the visiting teams. If you wear your color at home it's always your color vs. white.

I don't mind certain alternate uniforms. I love the football versions of dark mode. Hate the smokey greys. Our current home/road basketball unis are my favorites of all time. Hence my avatar. 😀
Alot of people hate the smokey greys, because they got introduced by Butch Jones. You remember him, his favorite word is individual. He wears that word out. But sadly, nobody can counted up how many times he has said it in public. No doubts that he has said it more times than anyone in history. It probably will not be on his headstone. A shame.

The reason I like the dark mode of the football uniforms is they are simply a black version of the regular template of the regular orange and white uniforms. I get the font we use is the same as the baseball teams's, but I would like them so much more if we simply had a black version of the home white and road orange uniforms. Plus to me they look too plain, they look like practice uniforms which is a big problem I have with football pants with no stripes.

I would like SG uniforms if same thing, it was literally just a SG version of the regular uniforms like the black ones are. I get that seems kinda boring for an alternate, but I'm usually not a big fan of alternates, they usually get too cute. Plus I think for the most part our football and unfiorms are pretty pefect and I really hope Adidas doesn't change much. Some of the Adidas stuff in the past was....woooooof.

Exactly. I would totally be on board with the dark mode and smokey greys if they were just a replica of the existing homes or even the script Vols version.

The smokey greys in football just are too busy and obnoxious. The dark mode in basketball would be fine without the hideous Nike font.

I would like to see a 70's orange uni with the light blue trim and light blue sneakers. I remember the light blue Chuck Taylor's we wore with those one or two years in the road in the King/Grunfeld era. They were sweet

You are kidding, right?
I I don't think that's allowed in college yet. The NBA can do it if they feel like it on a one day whim during the regular season. Once the playoffs start, the home team must wear white or light. The away team wears dark. Usually white at home

All I can say with confidence is, if it hurt sales, they would stop doing it.

Football (and now hockey) is the only one that wears dark at home. Baseball, basketball, soccer, all white at home.

The NBA has also gone to dark home unis for the most part. Listen, it all comes down to what sells merchandise, and my guess is that color jerseys far outsell white. Add to that the myriad 'alternate' NBA jerseys, so you can never be sure what they'll be wearing from night to night. That's if you even care about the NBA.

I always loved white at home and color on the road except for football, but then I'm a dinosaur.

Nothing more, nothing less than $$$$$$$$, the same thing that drives virtually every policy decision in big time college and pro sports. Color jerseys probably outsell white ones, simple as that.

NBA tries to have its teams wear every jersey at home at least once, including alternates. They also allow both teams to wear color.
