Like many I was roasted for stating the opinion McCoy was cleared to play @ some point last season, but he decided not to play. I don’t blame him but would’ve loved to seen him return.

- Jermod McCoy told reporters in Indianapolis on Thursday that he was cleared to return to with Tennessee

football last season, but opted not to because he "didn't feel ready."

McCoy didn't play for the Vols last season, but did return to practice while coming back from a torn ACL suffered in January 2025.

~EDIT

Go Vols!

The mental hurdle has got to be tough with an injury like that.
My cousin blew his knee playing for Tusculum College in the mid 90’s. While he was a lineman, he was concerned the “new” knee wouldn’t hold up. Plus, he would be concerned anytime he had any discomfort in the knee area.

Tore mine twice then Achilles on same leg overcompensating. Coming back too soon is a big reason why I had a total knee at age 47.
And yes the mental hurdle of change of direction and cutting without thinking is a battle, especially when fluid builds up and 50ccs has to be drained or pushed out with therapy when trying to come back.
Being medically cleared just means the acl is stable.
Fans shouldnt be critical of players coming off major surgeries unless they’d bark at their kid for the same thing, which then brings into question their parenting.

I wonder if he was paid his contracted NIL, especially since he was cleared? I don't care just wondering if there are any rules that penalize a player for any reason.

Most trainers/doctors won’t clear a player, esp. after injury he had, until he is close to 100% with minimal soreness. It was his decision Not to play. But I don’t blame him. Just thought it was interesting interview.
Strrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeettttttttccccccchhhhhhh that truth out as far as you can comfortably live with

He'd been a fool to try to play this past season. Getting 1st round graded and still didn't play a snap last year. Get your bag young man.

Gave us one amazing year then made a business decision. I don’t fault him in the least.

Looks good on us once again— this time we’re prob gonna have 2 DBs in the top 50 picks.

Before NIL and pay for play, I might have had a different reaction, but he was paid to play, was cleared, and he chose not to play. That's tough to swallow. And I don't understand people being okay with Tennessee getting hung out to dry.
