Nice article on the, "Cutcliffe," influence still at UT

I would wager that whatever school Marshall Manning ends up at will have David Cutcliffe as an offensive/quarterback consultant.
Cutcliffe will be 75+ when Marshall starts college and I'm doubtful he'll want to do much coaching at that age.

Great coach, great legacy, and probably a great friend to the Manning family personally, but age catches everyone. I'm doubtful he'll be coaching at that age.

If you can't access it I will try to cut and paste.

Good article.

Thanks for posting. We are gonna improve a lot defensively. Our Dline especially at Tackle doesn't have enough experience to be part of a dominant defense this year...but we will be much improved and finish maybe 30 to 40th nationally with our brutal schedule. .in 27 amd beyond I believe this staff will have a really good defense and we will win a Title with CJH and Knowles. 2 of the very best on each side of the ball. Pretty cool article.
Having that Offensive influence all those years seems to have done Knowles and Company well since he's been at the top of the game at every stop since those days.
This should play out well - I agree with others in that we will be improved this coming year, but '27 should be a top flight defensive squad.

As much as I would love to see Cut here as an offensive analyst to land what should be the next generational talent in Marshall Manning, I too don't see him coaching up into that age. However, I bet he still has sway with the family so maybe he can influence the decision still.

Side note - anyone know if that polo he's wearing in that picture an Adidas design?
That's pretty sweet and wouldn't mind them bringing that design back if so.

Sorry to take away from convo about Coach Cutcliffe, but article reminded me of my total despise for Randy Sanders near the end of his tenure at UT. And this is giving Erik Ainge some credit as he apparently had good hearing, because a contingent of UT fans in the Hill end zone, including myself, led the chant of "Fire Sanders" for almost a whole game. Randy had become predictable and complacent and was nothing like Coach Cutcliffe - whose spirit still lives on Shield Watkins Field.

Reading the main article resonated with something a small faction of people said. Fulmer let Cutcliff do as he wanted and that turned out great. He hamstrung Sanders and over road a lot of his calls but let Sanders take the heat.

I know. Cutcliff very well and he is a a one in a million type guy. At 75, he will be interested in helping anyone who needs his help. He is not a guy that will say lI’m too old to contribute and he loves the game of football. But beyond, that, hw loves to be around people and people love to be around him. If someone wants help and he can help the, hw does it. He is truly a great human being and a man among men. I have respected him since the first day I met him. Not many people can hold a light to him.

I don't remember that with Sanders but I did hear that with Clawson. My opinion was that Sanders just wasn't ready to be an OC at an SEC school in 1999. Being the interim for the Fiesta Bowl was fine but at the end of that National Championship season, Fulmer should have conducted a nationwide search. I have a hard time believing that Sanders would have been the top choice among all who applied.

I think he will help Marshall if called but I think there's respect from the Manning family to let him retire.

He's not openly working with Arch but I'm sure he would but I just don't think the family would ask him to do very much if anything. I'm not doubting his character at all but there comes a time that you don't ask.

I just think respect from the Manning family will keep the calls to Cutcliffe to a minimum but I think he'd be the first to call them if he saw an issue with Marshall.

If only Sanders was given a sabbatical!
