From Tony Basilio:

With Saturday's loss to Florida the Cats finished 9th in the regular season with a 10-8 record. That's the Cats worst conference finish in the history of the school ... Do you love it or what? Let's goooo. The SEC and UK have been at it since 1932 and the Cats have finished outside the top 5 in the SEC only 6 times in that time period. Are you for this or what? Since 2020 (Barnhart's golden years as AD) Kentucky has finished outside the SEC's top 5 THREE TIMES ... INCLUDING TWO CONSECUTIVE SEASONS ...

Kentucky might have been the most inconsistent team in the country this year. When they were good, they were really good, and when bad, inexplicably bad. Having said that, the second half of our two games against them were definitely the low points of this season.

Literally the same SEC record as last year. They went 8-9 in conference in 2021 when they finished 9-16.

I had a similar initial reaction, but I now assume he means actual place in the conference (9th) being the worst.

That identical 10-8 record, last year, was somehow good for 6th place in a historically great SEC. The conference is good this year, but not all-time good like it was in 24-25.

I don't know if it's better for them if they were bad at math or bad at writing.

Just from the eye test this Kentucky team is hard to classify. They beat us in a couple of games we should have won, and they have wins against St John's and Vandy, so they can beat good teams. But outside of that they just haven't.

Yeah but they are not playing at Rupp Arena. Vandy beat the socks off them in Nashville. Vols lost twice to them and had big leads both times. I think the Vols biggest problem is they do not have a true point guard to keep them together. We got spoiled by ZZ, and JM the last few years.

I think we don't really get the full picture on Gillespie if we criticize him as a point guard and don't consider him on his own merits. He's done incredible work this season and it's been visible to media observers and pretty clear in the stats:

It's adjustment going from Zeigler to Gillespie as he's not a pure point guard but instead a scorer who works from high usage. He doesn't bug me about this team, I'm more bugged about players consistently passing up open shots to try to get better shots, when those better shots are not forthcoming. He doesn't hesitate when it's time to shoot.

I am not blaming Gillespie at all. He is not a true point guard. He is more of a two because he can shoot. I just think if Barnes had got a point guard this team would of won more games.

We would be adding a point guard who is taller than Gillespie and works well without the ball, which is in Gillespie's hands. Which makes it sound like we would be adding a shooting guard, honestly.

Now that EVERY team can legally buy players, the Kentucky’s and Bama’s of the world
have lost their advantage.
True, but to clarify, Alabama has lost their edge in football only. The last 4 years have been their best in program history in basketball. I despise Oates, but they have had more success with him than any other coach. I think he's learned to break rules when there aren't even any in place.

Look at it this way, by the standards that Barnes has brought to TN basketball,
This was not a good team nor season. And yet we will still be comfortably in the dance and looking to win a couple games if healthy.

Wonder if Barnes really thought Ziegler would prevail in his lawsuit, the Tennessee AG nailed them, but the players have not done as well in litigation along the way? The new point guard from Chicago was at the Vandy game, hope he won't change his mind,

In Lexington this year it's March Sadness, as they may have to pick up an extra night at the Super 8 in Nashville, having to play a day earlier.

I think your right about the Ziegler part.

Typical Basilio grandiose exaggeration
