It has served Barnes well.

God Justin Powell being here feels like a fever dream. Forgot that ever happened
He was the most baffling of all. Was a high level shooter in a shortened freshman season at Burn. Can’t throw it in the ocean at UT. Throw out the 5 for 5 in the preseason against Presbyterian and he shot under 33% from 3. Goes to Washington St and shoots over 42% from 3?

This system wasn't for him. Defense was not what he wanted to do. See Cam Carr. He could always shoot, and even could fill in at PG in a pinch. Just couldn't (or wouldn't) guard anyone like Barnes wanted. It affected his playing time and confidence waiting on the hook, but he knew what he signed up for. And Barnes knew what he was bringing in. Just a bad marriage.

This is my only complaint with CRB. Sometimes you gotta give a little to get the most out of a player. His teams are always good on defense, but sometimes you gotta have some dudes that can score even if they can't guard anyone.

It’s been a minute, but I remember CRB bringing Powell in and running plays to get him opens 3’s and he just couldn’t deliver. While his D wasn’t great, they quit playing him when he quit hitting shots.

You allow that with Knecht and Lanier, so I agree to a point. Powell was a good shooter, but not an elite offensive player that you can take a 0 out of defensively and come out ahead.

Right. You can't be a bad defensive player AND not score. You don't get a lot of opportunities when you don't deliver on either end.
