I think Caldwell is a good coach but the hire for TN was wrong. It’s your classic “hot new coach” who gets a chance with a big program. 1st year everyone is amazed because the style was new to the opposing coaches. 2nd year, good coaches will be able to counter the schemes which you have seen this year.
Kim will have to adjust her playing style or needs to go to a different conference.

It’s not a “good” hire if the hire was the wrong fit. That’s the very definition of a bad hire

welp, considering she said in her press conference last night the mistake she made was moving away from her playing style….. future doesn’t look bright lol

I don't agree. I like her--I appreciate the fact she came on after the final loss and said she blew it by leaving her system for a Plan B she didn't really want. I'm all in to see what year 3 can bring. There was just something in her pissed off eyes in her presser that makes me want to see next year. I'm thinking she felt pressured into doing something she didn't want to do

To say plan B was not the answer, I say it could have been, but she is saying that her system is still plan A and she regrets leaving from that. So, it looks like she is sticking to this really bad system going forward, so that in itself tells everyone that she won't change, something DW will have to deal with. She is not just incompetent, but very stupid for not seeing what is happening right before her eyes.

The problem with her plan A is it works with players who aren't as talented and have something to fight for. Enter year two, hey Kim we can get you this many Mc All Americans and a handful of top portal players. These players want the ball and be on the floor all the time that is how they have been groomed. Yes they knew her system but LV brand and $ and they said yes. Most likely most thought but when she sees me in the lineup she won't take me out. So do you go after more 3 stars and hope this system will work at this level after it's now on tape how to beat.

She's not stupid. Why go away from what got you the job in the first place? Do I think she can win a championship at UT, no. I also respect the fact that she's adamant about doing it her way, if she going to be successful or fired at least she's doing it her way. I'm glad I'm not DW. He has a tough decision to make .

Bad hire. Bad timing.

She’s the HC. The boss. So, who is in charge? Her? The players? I seriously doubt she even believed in what she was saying. No half court defense. No half court offense. All I saw all year was a full court press that didn’t produce any advantage except for opposing teams. If anyone wants to see this style again next year, I’d go for it as long as Danny cuts prices of tickets in half.

I’m for Plan C— “you’re fired”…!

If Danny’s tingly *ick decisions result in the Tennessee Lady Vols missing next year’s tournament, all Hell is going to break loose. We absolutely cannot play around with the idea that Kim’s system would work consistently against the elite programs even if next year’s squad were made up of this year’s first-team All-Americans. It is a simple, verifiable fact that our press doesn’t wear the top teams down, and that there’s no such thing as a group of players who can, from a full-stop trap position, outrun passes out of them. Just facts.

We’ll be hearing yet another round of how the players will hate her at the beginning of the year but will love her at the end because of how her system wore everyone else out and we were in such supreme condition because of it. And we’re unlikely to be able to land better talent for next season than we had this one, so… we very well could miss the NCAAT. That would be devastating to so many people, especially past players and staff.

Ugh.

Her plan A stinks. Hockey style subbing every 2 minutes,,full court pressing all the
Time. Seems like her players didn't buy into
The system.

At this point, I don't believe she'llbe able to sell her system to any group of players who have thetalent and smarts to finish near the top of the SEC. Next year couldbe an instant replay regardless of the new recruits and any portaladditions.

DarkPhoenix has been beating the drum that top players don’t want to come play for this system of coming in and out. I had my doubts , but we signed a decent high school class. It’s going to be even harder now to get players to come with a coach that is on a blazing hot seat who is doubling down on a system and just had the worst record in program history. I’d love for someone to explain the sales pitch. Is it going to be placing all the blame on this year’s players and throwing them under the bus? I wonder how that will sit with prospective players.

How would y’all gage the current overall approval rating of Caldwell compared with Warlick and Harper near the end of their tenures?

Ya know, that rationale can be applied to every coaching hire that does not work out. Jeremy Pruitt was a good hire, it was just bad timing that all the better players went to different teams and he was competing against coaches who knew how to beat his teams. If the timing had only been different..

So, it really does not make sense but I guess anything to avoid the conclusion that Danny White's big gamble has not paid dividends.

FYI, there are many other threads on this "bad timing" situation where you could have shared this viewpoint.

Who detected a difference in play from Plan A to Plan B? Had she abandoned Plan A at UCLA in November? She should maybe consider telemarketing. She is persistent with the lines.
Exactly. Kim's narrative is simply a fib. She suffered some of her worst losses, UCLA, Louisville, before she went half ass on the system, and had her best wins, Alabama and Kentucky, when she used it the least. That's what actually happened, but unfortunately actual truth went out of this equation a long time ago And we're now in a perpetual spin zone.

In my narrative, UCLA and Louisville were a turning point. I think the team was already very fragile and sore because of Ruby. But remember how shocked and disappointed we were when UCLA ran a humiliating layup line all over the system? Imagine how the players felt. I think it came clear to them that day that the system they signed up for was not going to work no matter how hard they played.. And that they were left with no alternative plans. Then when it happened again against Louisville, I believe the mutiny was brewing.

Then came UConn and SC and the quitter comments and it was on. The cupcake Jan sched gave a false lull in the hostilities, but Feb brought the roof down while Kim fiddled around the edges of the system.

I like her fine as a coach but don't see how you can justify subbing everyone for a completely different 5. IMO is great way to have a well rested mediocre team every year.... If she is even doing that anymore, honestly I give up watching the Lady Vols awhile back just because of it. You can't convince me that her teams wouldn't be better playing the best grouping.
