Good for him.

I don’t have any insights into the inner workings of the staff, but my impression is that he was one of the best if not the best assistant Branes has had at UT? Given his role as “defensive coordinator” and our elite defense since that point.

Kim English makes sense, but who knows?
Kim English is an excellent recruiter, but I do wonder if some of the shine has worn off him. I'd like to think he and Barnes still have a good relationship.

Gainey was such an asset from the game planning aspect, I wonder if Barnes looks for someone with a similar skillset.

I didn’t know he was an alum so this is great opportunity for him. Even if not, I’m sure NC State wouldn’t hire a coach right now without gaurantees that he would stay a minimum amount of time after going through that Will Wade fiasco.

With Wade there I can now hate on both their football and basketball teams again.

Question is: What players will follow him? Also what portal players Tennessee has been recruiting will he go after. Just a thought. I am not criticizing him for doing that. If I were leaving that is the first place I would look.

He was an elite assistant.

It’s not a coincidence that the best 3 years of TN basketball were with him as Associate Head Coach.

It speaks for itself that a team that was in the final four literally two years ago, in a major basketball state, with a solid history….hired him. Because he has no head coaching experience.
