"Another" Elite 8 exit

I don't know about everybody else, but I'm sick and damned tired of seeing headlines in the media referencing "another" Elite 8 loss "again." Exactly how many teams get TO the EE 3 years in a row? I much prefer to look at it as "No Final 4 YET."
I think it’s how we lost the last 2 years that makes it feel like we’re so much farther away. Dalton was unconscious and we lost a tough one. It’s frustrating for sure. We’re right on the doorstep but every year it gets harder. Especially as teams reload and retool.

Tennessee has to look at what there teams that are making the FF regularly are doing. To me they are just finding better talent. Whether that means we need to funnel more NIL toward basketball or some other means, but we need more talent to get over the hump. The same can be said for football too.

Great season. We were not supposed to reach E8.
Only 56 teams that wished they could have made an elite 8. I can remember when Tennessee couldn’t even make it into the tournament. It is disappointing not to win or be competitive in the last game. But dang. An elite 8 is outstanding!

One of the learnings should be that we need an all-around skilled big man like Edey or Mara, but I realize that those guys are unicorns. Michigan also hit it big in the transfer portal with Yaxel.

I remember when Barnes went to some camp and was looking for players. The Vols had Uros Plavsic as a big man. I forget who Barnes ended up with. But there was a big guy there at the camp. But the Vols never gave him a look because they had a big guy. If Barnes would of too the guy the Vols probaly could of won at least two National Championships. The big guy at the camp was Zack Eddy who went for 30 something against the Vols in NCAA Tourney.

Never understand why people are offended by the truth.

And his traveling was overlooked on every possession.

We have lost our last two elite eight matchups by a combined 53 points so yea we gonna get ridiculed for that. My co workers already hit me with the Rocky Flop ragging this morning at work. RB is a very good coach but in what 40 years of coaching almost he’s been to just one final four. It was an embarrassing loss yesterday for the whole world to see.

That step to get to the final 4 from the elite 8 is huge. We definitely will need to invest more NIL money to basketball to get better players to make the jump. Michigan was way ahead of us in talent, plus their offense and defense was very good. I look for them to knock off Arizona in the final 4.

Tennessee gets a bad rap for playing hard-nosed defense and, thus, gets mislabeled as bully ballers. We were in foul trouble before the ink dried on the bracket to begin with. Yesterday Estrella and Ament got racked on takeoff to the rim with no-calls. It seems Gillespie is always picking himself up off the floor after a layup. Ament (much like Vescovi in the past) gets held and beaten down on cuts off screens. It’s hard to overcome the bad press we get for our physicality that is getting dealt to our players equally and ignored.

I did not think Tennessee would make it to the Elite Eight, so I get what you are saying. Getting there three straight seasons is an accomplishment many would love to have.

However, when you lose as bad as we did to Michigan and last season people are going to roast you and question your ceiling.

Certain teams like Michigan and Iowa just have more NIL money for basketball and are out recruiting us is what it comes down to. Danny and the boosters here at UT need to provide some more NIL money so we can get the type of players needed to get us to the Promised Land. I hope that White was watching and paying attention to what a Championship caliber team looks like in what Michigan did to us and help Barnes in providing with what we need in order to be a Number One seed and make a run at the Final Four next season.

That's true. The experts are not going to look at us and say, "These Vols made the Elite Eight three straight seasons, how impressive." When we lost as bad as we did to Michigan, they're going to say, "Damn, these Vols got their asses handed to them by the Wolverines of Michigan. This looks like a team that will never make it to the Final Four." That's just the way it is.

Hell, after what I saw yesterday, I think that the team that curb stomped us will be the ones cutting down the nets next Monday night.
