I think it’s how we lost the last 2 years that makes it feel like we’re so much farther away. Dalton was unconscious and we lost a tough one. It’s frustrating for sure. We’re right on the doorstep but every year it gets harder. Especially as teams reload and retool.I don't know about everybody else, but I'm sick and damned tired of seeing headlines in the media referencing "another" Elite 8 loss "again." Exactly how many teams get TO the EE 3 years in a row? I much prefer to look at it as "No Final 4 YET."
One of the learnings should be that we need an all-around skilled big man like Edey or Mara, but I realize that those guys are unicorns. Michigan also hit it big in the transfer portal with Yaxel.Tennessee has to look at what there teams that are making the FF regularly are doing. To me they are just finding better talent. Whether that means we need to funnel more NIL toward basketball or some other means, but we need more talent to get over the hump. The same can be said for football too.
I remember when Barnes went to some camp and was looking for players. The Vols had Uros Plavsic as a big man. I forget who Barnes ended up with. But there was a big guy there at the camp. But the Vols never gave him a look because they had a big guy. If Barnes would of too the guy the Vols probaly could of won at least two National Championships. The big guy at the camp was Zack Eddy who went for 30 something against the Vols in NCAA Tourney.I don't know about everybody else, but I'm sick and damned tired of seeing headlines in the media referencing "another" Elite 8 loss "again." Never understand why people are offended by the truth.I don't know about everybody else, but I'm sick and damned tired of seeing headlines in the media referencing "another" Elite 8 loss "again." Exactly how many teams get TO the EE 3 years in a row? I much prefer to look at it as "No Final 4 YET."
And his traveling was overlooked on every possession.I remember when Barnes went to some camp and was looking for players. The Vols had Uros Plavsic as a big man. I forget who Barnes ended up with. That step to get to the final 4 from the elite 8 is huge. We definitely will need to invest more NIL money to basketball to get better players to make the jump. Michigan was way ahead of us in talent, plus their offense and defense was very good. I look for them to knock off Arizona in the final 4.Tennessee has to look at what there teams that are making the FF regularly are doing. To me they are just finding better talent. I did not think Tennessee would make it to the Elite Eight, so I get what you are saying. Getting there three straight seasons is an accomplishment many would love to have.I don't know about everybody else, but I'm sick and damned tired of seeing headlines in the media referencing "another" Elite 8 loss "again." That's true. The experts are not going to look at us and say, "These Vols made the Elite Eight three straight seasons, how impressive." When we lost as bad as we did to Michigan, they're going to say, "Damn, these Vols got their asses handed to them by the Wolverines of Michigan. This looks like a team that will never make it to the Final Four." That's just the way it is.I did not think Tennessee would make it to the Elite Eight, so I get what you are saying. However, when you lose as bad as we did to Michigan and last season people are going to roast you and question your ceiling.
Hell, after what I saw yesterday, I think that the team that curb stomped us will be the ones cutting down the nets next Monday night. That step to get to the final 4 from the elite 8 is huge.
