didnt know where to put this but thought maybe the Vols will play a midweek game here against Ga Tech someday. Pretty impressive opening last night. Kind of like PNC in Pittsburgh, on the river (Moccasin Bend) and at the foot of Lookout Mtn. Has incorporated some of the old Foundry buildings into the footprint.

On I-24 on the way to Nashville.

I may have only been to the old park 2 or 3 times. I have attended lots and played a few games at Engle Stadium. I'm more of a traditionalist. I know it probably doesn't make sense financially, but I would love for Engel Stadium to make a comeback. I would rather have them improve Engel than build another brand-new facility.

The new park looks great, and I hope to get there sometime soon.

There was a news story out of Chattanooga earlier this year that UTC may tear down Engel Stadium.

It appears the Lookouts blew their first game in this stadium...blowing a save in the 9th and then losing in the 10th. Otherwise it does appear that they have a good team this year. As a Reds fan, I'm glad about that

Yep, breaks my heart. It was my home field in middle school for 3 years. Standing on the mound and in center field and just thinking about all the legends that played there….I’ll never, ever forget it. So special.

Won the 6th grade Knothole city championship there in 1959 when I played for Normal Park.

Hate to see it torn down but there is just no feasible plan to save it financially. UTC doesnt have any money and the City and County have more pressing needs.

Would hope they keep some memory of it like Pittsburgh did with Mazeroski's Wall at the old Forbes Field site.

nephew played college baseball there (Tennessee Temple) .... kind of sad that UTC does not even have a baseball team.

When I lived in Chattanooga in late 90s, I loved going to Engel Stadium
The outfield camels.
The train
The grandstand haircuts

AT&T was a terrible mistake and done on the cheap. Erlanger looks to be a significant.

Went to see my college daughter play lacrosse several weeks back and the intramural fields are adjacent to derelict Engel Stadium. I so wanted to go inside and look around. I understand the facility is being turned over to UTC for further athletic fields. Alas, none of which will be intercollegiate baseball- because UTC athletics is apparently run by morons.

While I understand the design context of the foundry warehouse look, all the photos I’ve seen are rather uninspiring, rather nondescript. I think the stands viewing angle is too flat as well.

Just insane, they just don’t go back to Engle. The stadium when refurbished would sell tickets all by itself. It would be one of the oldest ballparks in America and people would come from miles to see it. You want tourists Chattanooga! You could as you always do and go with the next best thing or perhaps preserve a Baseball Classic. Think saving the Walking Bridge vs building a new CB Robinson Bridge. One is treasured work of art and the other is is a bridge.

And when it’s gone. It’s GONE!! With a plaque that says, “At this Marker…”

Taylor V. ... he played (pitcher) around 2007... Played HS at Bradley Central.
A bit older than me - some of my good friends were on the very last Temple team that made the NAIA World Series the last year of the school. Poetic. Kinda like Birmingham Southern a few years ago. I’ll never forget reading the plaque in the concourse listing out all of the legends that kicked up the same dirt and grass I got the privilege of playing on - Harmon Killebrew, Satchell Paige, Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, Rogers Hornsby, Willie Mays and even Michael Jordan. That center field grass was like a perfect carpet even in 2007. Heaven on earth.
